Are you looking for an exercise with gentle movement classes in Hamilton and online over lockdown to participate in? This blog will teach you about an amazing holistic practice known as Nia Dance, and how to access the best classes while you’re at home.
As you may have heard, New Zealand will be moving from Alert Level 4 to 3. Auckland will be remaining in Level 4 for another 2 weeks. However, at both levels, most public facilities will remain closed, including gyms and other fitness facilities.
Don’t wait until lockdown is over to start taking care of your body with physical movement. Dance NZ is a Raglan and Hamilton-located Nia Dance company that provides amazing online classes that will leave you feeling healthy, more relaxed, and more positive. All of which are important feelings to maintain, especially over the course of lockdown.

Nia Dance Providing Gentle Movements For All
As briefly mentioned earlier, Nia Dance is a holistic, non-impact fitness that provides highly adaptable movements in the form of dance. Made up of 52 movements in total, Nia Dance is inspired by 9 different movement art forms that originate from a healing, dance, or martial art.
You’ll find Nia Dance can suit any mood, whether you’re wanting to perform something that will leave you feeling relaxed, or help you feel energised. Creating ease in your life through gentle movement, Nia Dance is always participated in with the support of different styles of music. Dancing to beautiful music can create a wonderful harmony between your mind, body, and soul.
Due to its unique composition and extensive knowledge of the complex design human body, Nia Dance produces numerous benefits that cover spiritual, mental, physical, and emotional areas of your life. Some of these benefits include weight loss and reduced stress.
Also, a decrease in muscle tension, pain relief, reduced symptoms of depression or anxiety, muscle gain and toning, relaxed mood, calm energy, self-discovery, increased joint flexibility, increased mobility, and even more!

Accessing Nia Dance Classes Over Lockdown
One of the wonderful things about Nia Dance is that requires absolutely no equipment at all, not even shoes! Because it’s a non-impact practice, all you need to participate in Nia Dance is a spacious environment to move around in comfortably or a chair to sit and perform in.
In this case, since you’ll be accessing classes online, you will need a device to access classes on and a stable wifi connection. Gentle Nia is Dance NZ’s most ideal class if you’re looking for a Nia Dance routine that’s easy on your body.
This class has been adapted so the movements require less mobility and are not as complex. In fact, it can even be completed while sitting down and using your upper body; even sitting, Nia Dance is an extremely effective form of healthy fitness that can still reap all the benefits listed already.
Online classes at Dance NZ are held through Zoom, a video-sharing application that can be downloaded on your phone, tablet, or laptop. Classes through online sessions occur live, and you can decide whether you want your camera and microphone on or if you’d prefer watching but not being seen.
This allows you to feel completely comfortable letting loose and truly embracing Nia Dance. You may find that you can’t attend online classes due to an unpredictable or full schedule. However, Dance NZ offers a solution for that too. 24-hour replays are available for purchase on the Dance NZ site, with a range of different classes to choose from.
Once purchased, you can watch the replay as many times as you like within the 24-hour window. This gives you the freedom of participating without having to commit to a specific class time. With the option to rewatch, pause, rewind and fast-forward the replay, you can really focus on each move in-depth, or go at a slower pace!
