Are you a senior looking for something to keep you healthy and active? Maybe you’re on the search for a recovery program to help an injury or illness that you’re suffering from?

If you’re located in the Raglan or Hamilton area try Nia With Belinda.

Nia Dance (also known as the Nia Technique) is a welcoming dance group based in Raglan and Hamilton. Available in-person and online!

This blog will cover and discuss physical, emotional, or cognitive issues you may be facing, how Nia Dance can help you, and Nia With Belinda classes that would best suit you.

How to improve cognitive function

Currently, you may be experiencing several health problems in the form of physical or cognitive ailments.

Physical restrictions in mobility are common and can be rooted in numerous things, such as recovering injuries, joint problems, or spinal issues. These root dilemmas are not always quickly treatable and often recovery requires a lot of time and money.

Impaired senses are also a popular obstacle, particularly in sight and hearing. While these sensory problems can be easily treatable by items like hearing aids, or glasses, it is not always a complete solution; the senses may still lack in some ways.

Mental health and cognitive functions are also well-experienced problems across seniors. Depression is the leading mental illness to affect elders, and this can often stem from issues with physical wellbeing and trying to manage it or recover.

The most common root of depression in seniors is loneliness, studies have found.

Dementia is the world-leading, most common cognitive health issue and unfortunately has no cure, and is only manageable through different treatment plans and combinations.

How Nia Dance Can Help You

All of these problems that were listed above are something that Nia Dance can support you through and aim to improve. Despite a large number of benefits to physical health, mental and emotional wellbeing, spiritual connection, and cognitive functions, Nia Dance (or the Nia Technique) is not a well-known form of fitness or recovery.

For seniors, Nia Dance is an excellent form of fitness that has numerous moves that work around limited mobility and joint flexibility. Nia With Belinda classes also have differing levels of difficulty set out within each session so you can perform at levels you feel comfortable with or at a level to strengthen and extend your limits.

Nia Dance can improve cognitive health and functions, as well as aid sensory stimulation (i.e. sight and hearing). Common benefits also include joint, muscle, and general pain relief, enhanced muscle and joint strength, improved organ function, improved circulation, and loss of weight.

Emotionally, Nia Dance provides you with newfound energy, an energy that is calm and devoid of any form of stress, worries, or anxieties. Reduction of depression symptoms is another benefit, as Nia Dance helps provide you with the skills and tools you need to create a more joyful and pleasurable lifestyle. Nia Dance also encourages social interaction throughout the dance exercises while also allowing dancers to create individual expression.

It is evident that one of the main reasons men and women attend this weekly dance class for seniors is the strengthening of happiness created through social connection. Nia With Belinda is a welcoming group and we would love to have you join us!
