The Nia Technique is a combination of martial arts (like Tai Chi), healing arts (like Yoga), and dance arts (like modern dance or Duncan dance). It was designed to improve multiple areas within life and wellbeing, specifically mental, physical, and spiritual healing.

Nia With Belinda has a variety of classes that are easily accessible and open to those who might not have the mobility or ability to take part in more intense sessions.

How Can Nia Dance Help My Recovery Process?

In Nia Dance, there is no pressure to be perfect as it’s available to all levels of experience, so you can complete your routine with a level of comfort and without judgment. Physically, Nia Dance can improve functions of your body, such as agility, flexibility between joints, lung performance, and immune and nervous system performance.

A common benefit is also pain relief. Nia Dance can also boost your positive emotions and energy, supplying you with a happier mood and calmer energy through your recovery process.

Nia Dance Move to Heal is a class open to those in the recovery stage of an injury or illness, and offers a significant amount of benefits. A part of the ACC recovery programs, this class strives to supply the benefits of Nia Dance while catering to limited mobility and joint flexibility. It’s a class that only requires light movement, less flexibility, and can be attended as a physical lesson or over a live Zoom session.

Are There Other Classes Available After I Recover?

Yes! Nia With Belinda provides other classes such as Classic Nia and Gentle Nia, both of which are ideal fitness classes for beginners and experienced dancers alike. These two classes are open to Zoom if you prefer participating in your own space, or physical sessions in Hamilton or Raglan that you can attend.

Are The Teacher and Course Qualified?

Of course! Nia Dance Move to Heal and Nia for Parkinson’s Freedom Dance are both approved Waikato Strength and Balance classes for individuals experiencing limited mobility and seniors. Your teacher, Belinda Goodwin, is a certified teacher for the Nia Technique, owning her white, green, and blue belt.

Currently training for her brown belt, Belinda also has completed certificates for Dance For Parkinson’s basic training and advanced training/professional development workshop and is a certified workplace First Aider.

Please note that Nia for Parkinson’s FREEDOM DANCE is only open to those diagnosed with Parkinson’s and their caregivers.
