With Hamilton out of lockdown, many gyms and fitness classes are opening back up to the public. If you live in the Hamilton or Raglan region, now is the perfect opportunity to take advantage of an incredibly unique dance fitness program. Known as Dance NZ, this Waikato-based dance fitness company aims to introduce and guide individuals through the wonderful world of Nia Dance. This reviving dance fitness in Hamilton and Raglan is also available online for those who may not feel comfortable in public so fresh out of lockdown, or for those not in the area. So, let’s delve a little deeper into the beautiful technique of Nia.

Feel Strengthened and Energised With Nia Dance

Nia Dance is the perfect form of exercise to kickstart you back into a healthier lifestyle after such a long lockdown. An adaptable and non-impact type of dance fitness, Nia Dance is an ideal technique to ease yourself back into exercise through gentle movements and non-complex routines. Even though movements can be made simple or easier to perform, Nia Dance is a highly stimulating form of exercise and dance, providing higher levels of organ and cognitive functioning, as well as balance and coordination.

7 cycles make up Nia Dance, each cycle making you perform in a completely different way from the other to provide different goals. For example, cycle 4 is similar to cardio, whereas cycle 6 makes you perform movements entirely on the floor. These cycles help to offer you an abundance of physical and mental benefits such as higher muscle strength, toning, brain clarity, reduced stress, and much more!

The wonderful thing about Nia Dance is that anyone can perform, whether you’re injured, a stay-at-home mum, a senior or a bodybuilder. Whether you’re performing at home or in person, using your full body or sitting down using only your upper body, Nia Dance can still provide you health and well-being benefits.

Boost Your Fitness and Energy At Dance NZ

Now that lockdown is over in the Hamilton region, Dance NZ’s popular in-person classes are back up and running for current and new members! Each of the five classes available at Dance NZ is occurring at their respective physical locations at different Hamilton and Raglan venues. Attending in-person classes will require you having to scan the venue QR code and wear a mask before entering but after that, it’s time to get back into the groove of your favourite Nia Dance class!

If you’re new to Nia Dance at Dance NZ, there are many specially designed classes available to cater to specific individual abilities and restrictions. Classic Nia is the class that is most easily able to cater to the majority of individuals. This class is perfect for those with dance experience, good levels of mobility and flexibility, or confidence in themselves and their fitness ability. Gentle Nia is the opposite, with soft and simple movements made to be easily adaptable for those with fewer levels of movements or seniors.

Nia Dance Move to Heal is a class that can cater to those with injuries, helping their rehabilitation process with gentle, healing movement and good social support. Nia for Parkinson’s Freedom Dance is open to practice for those with Parkinson’s and their carers only. It’s a great class for people with Parkinson’s to enjoy stimulating movement and engage socially with other people with Parkinson’s.
