Are you an experienced dancer or a fitness lover who’s confident in your flexibility and mobility abilities? If you’re looking for a unique exercise practice, want a workout that isn’t intense on your body, or just want to try something new, consider introducing Nia Dance into your lifestyle and feel all the mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual benefits this technique has to offer.
Dance NZ is a dance company specialising in teaching Nia Dance to all types of individuals, as well as using the practice in specialised, healing classes for those with injuries or specific ailments. Based in Hamilton and Raglan, Dance NZ has two classes ideal for those looking for a slightly more challenging or advanced class and routine.

Nia Dance v.s. Other Dance Forms
Nia Dance is a unique technique that is the combination of different martial arts, healing arts, and dance arts which already makes it quite different compared to other dance practices or dance fitness forms. This is because the wide variety of specific techniques was studied and crafted together following the human body’s complex design, to supply you with the same benefits (and more) that you’d get from the higher intensity or more complex workouts.
Unlike other dance classes you would have tried before, Nia Dance is a non-impact technique that is adaptable to any individuals specific needs or abilities, yet provides a large number of benefits that target numerous areas of your life and being, and teaches you skills and provides tools to improve your lifestyle and mindset outside of classes. If you’re someone who hates sweating and tiring workouts, such as Zumba or Crossfit, then Nia Dance is ideal, offering 52 relaxing movements that leave you with newfound calm energy at the end of each class.
The benefits of Nia Dance are different for all individuals but the most common benefits include pain relief, released muscle tensions, weight loss, improved strength in muscles, increased flexibility between joints and mobility, deeper spiritual connection, more opportunity for self-discovery, higher levels of endurance, improvements in organ function and cardiovascular health, decreased symptoms of depression or anxiety, and much more!

Classic Nia
The most ideal class for skilled dancers and active individuals at Dance NZ is Classic Nia, a class that takes place every Tuesday and Friday in Hamilton. Just like all other classes at Dance NZ, Classic Nia has the option of being viewed and attended in-person, or online via a live Zoom call or 24-hour purchasable replays. Replays or Zoom sessions are perfect for participating at home, but if you prefer participating in social groups, you’ll fina Classic Nia classes, just like all other classes, to provide a supportive, welcoming, and judgment-free environment with your teacher and peers.
You’ll also have an extremely talented teacher guiding you in each class and helping you practice the technique, ensuring you get the most out of Nia Dance. Belinda Goodwin is a trained Nia Dance teacher, having completed her white, blue, and green belt in the Nia Technique and currently progressing through her brown belt. Within each class, Belinda also ensures that each movement can be done at various levels of difficulty so you can challenge yourself and stick to what you know.
