The Nia Technique (known also as Nia Dance) is a fluid form of 52 non-impact movements that are the unique combination of forms from martial, dance, and healing arts. This dance form is highly adaptable, able to cater to any individual’s specific needs or adjust based on one’s ability. Movements are not forced and are performed based on what your body feels comfortable with, meaning the level of exercise is not overly intense or meant to tire out your body.
Dance NZ is one of the limited Nia Dance groups in New Zealand that provides both physical and online classes. Located in Hamilton and Raglan, Dance NZ has classes to cater to any individual’s ability or needs, so you don’t have to worry about potentially missing out on the amazing health and emotional benefits of Nia Dance!
Health Benefits of Nia Dance
Despite not being a widely known movement form, Nia Dance offers many benefits, including numerous physical health benefits. Such benefits include weight loss, strengthened muscles, increased levels of mobility and flexibility between joints, pain relief (such as back pains or muscle aches), improved organ function, improved circulation, and increased sensory awareness.
As well as these physical health benefits, there are also several mental health benefits that Nia Dance offers. Some of these mental health and wellbeing benefits include reduced stress and tension, alleviated symptoms within depression and anxiety, boosted mood with calmer, productive, or more joyous emotions.
Other health, wellbeing, and lifestyle benefits that Nia Dance can give include strengthening relationships between friends and family when you participate together, providing an environment where you can create new social connections, support in self-discovery, and a deepened spiritual connection.
