Dance With Belinda is a Nia Dance group based in Hamilton and Raglan, providing physical and online Zoom-based classes to all walks of people. Belinda Goodwin, your teacher in these classes, strives to show how Nia Dance can empower, improve, and heal.
How Fit Do I Need to Be For Nia Dance?
Whether you’re leading an active lifestyle or have a sedentary life, Nia Dance is a fantastic option for fitness and is easy to adjust and learn for beginners. Nia Dance is just as perfect for an athlete as it would be for a stay-at-home mum.
Classes are composed of simple and freeing exercises and movement, meaning you don’t exert a hefty sum of energy but still receive just as much exercise as other dance fitness classes (i.e. Zumba). If you’re just starting out or not as confident in your experience, Gentle Nia is a great class, to begin with.

The Nia Technique is composed of three different forms of art: Dance, martial, and healing. While Nia Dance on the outside just appears as a method of fitness through dance, many mental, emotional, and spiritual benefits come from it. When you participate in Nia Dance, the healing-focused areas of the exercises remove tension and worry, allowing calm energy to flow throughout your body. This same energy doesn’t vanish as soon as your class has finished; unlike regular forms of fitness that provide your body with a brief period of endorphins after a workout, Nia Dance rewards you with a mindset, a new joyful and pleasurable way of looking at your life and handling your wellbeing. It teaches you how to heal inside and outside of class, through exercise and words.

There’s no equipment required and can be done in an open, comfortable space with friends, strangers, family, or alone! If it’s your first time participating in classes, the first 3 classes for all newcomers are available for $15 ($5 per class for the first 3 classes). As well as the online Zoom and physical classes, there are 24-hour replays of sessions also available to purchase if your schedule is a bit too unpredictable.
