Wanting to find a dance and exercise class in a social setting? Maybe you’re stuck at home recuperating from a physical injury and are on the search for something to help your recovery? Nia Dance (also known as the Nia Technique) is a unique blend of martial arts, dance arts, and healing arts, designed to improve spiritual balance, mental clarity, and physical functions.
Dance NZ has numerous classes that allow you to not only practice this technique but bring forth a sense of empowerment, and the opportunity to make new friends.
What Benefits Does Nia Dance Have?
Nia Dance offers a wide range of mental and physical healing to those who practice it. If you’re more focused on your physical exterior, Nia Dance creates a love for the body, increases muscle gain, supports posture, and tones muscles.
If you’re looking for benefits to your physical interior, Nia Dance can strengthen your immune system, heighten concentration and senses, aid in circulation, and help organ function.
Mentally, Nia Dance brings more pleasure in day-to-day living, reduces symptoms of anxiety and depression, and creates new, calmer energy. While all these benefits can come from participating in Nia Dance, you also learn in these classes that healing comes from more than just dancing and fitness.
Nia Dance supplies you with the skills and tools in self-care to focus on improving your health and wellbeing inside and outside of classes. It can teach you that through the words we say and the intentions we have, healing can be shared and received.

How Active Do I Need to Be?
The great thing about Nia Dance is that nearly anyone can participate and feel the benefits. Whether you’re a stay-at-home parent, recovering from surgery, leading an active lifestyle, or a not-so-active one, Nia Dance can accommodate!
Dance With Belinda has a variety of classes to choose which can allow you to feel comfortable in taking part. There’s no requirement on mobility, activeness, or experience, and nearly all ages can participate. If you have a good range of mobility, Classic Nia is perfect for all individuals. If you’re recovering from an illness or injury, Nia Dance Move to Heal is a class specialising in healing those particular ailments and is more accommodating to limited movement. Nia for Parkinson’s Freedom Dance is another class available designed for those with Parkinson’s Disease and their caregivers.
(Note: Both of these classes are approved Waikato Strength and Balance classes for seniors and those with limited mobility).

What If I Don’t Have Time?
That’s okay! If you want to participate in sessions but feel as though you might not have space in your schedule or have an unpredictable timetable, there are numerous opportunities for you to join in.
Every Nia With Belinda class has the option of booking a Zoom lesson rather than a physical one. Every Zoom session occurs live, meaning that while you’re watching at home, the physical class is happening at the same time. This allows you to maintain the same connection as if you were there in person.
You might find that you still have problems sticking to a particular time slot; don’t let that hold you back! 24-hour replays of Nia With Belinda classes are available to purchase so you can decide in your own time when to start.
