The Nia Technique is a form of dance, composed of 52 total moves that originate from forms of martial, healing, and dance arts, that target your physical, emotional, spiritual, and mental health and wellbeing

Nia Dance is different from other types of fitness groups in the sense that, when it comes to healing of the mind, wellbeing, and boosting one’s mood, Nia Dance provides the tools and skills you need to keep your mindset and lifestyle healthy, and energy up in the day to day life, and inside and outside of class.

On the other hand, regular fitness classes are a good source to maintain a healthy lifestyle but they only provide you with short periods of energy and joy through the endorphins you receive after a workout.

At Nia With Belinda, your experienced teacher, Belinda Goodwin, who is currently training for her brown belt in the Nia Technique, strives not only to give you enjoyable classes in a supportive, social group setting but to also help you accurately learn this practice so you can apply the teachings of Nia Dance to your lifestyle, body and mind.

Boost Your Mood and Energy With a Class Outdoors!

Nia Dance and My Wellbeing

The 52 movements from Nia Dance come from a range of specific fitness forms such as Tai Chi and Yoga, and also takes the verbal teachings/ideas from these arts and blends them with mindfulness practices. This broad combination of techniques and exercises is what provides you with health benefits such as a decrease in anxiety and depressive symptoms, newfound productive energy, increased self-esteem, a calm and enjoyable outlook on life, and increased joy through new social connections.

These health benefits are taught inside the class, developing your own skills to be able to then apply what you learn to your lifestyle and self outside of classes. Nia Dance also incorporates the stages of Platos’ Procedure of Understanding the Nature and Function of Something’ with their own style.

‘Understanding’ is known as the ‘Embryonic stage’ in Nia Dance, ‘opinion’ is the ‘Creeping stage’, ‘reason’ is ‘Crawling’, and ‘intelligence’ is ‘Sacred Knowing or Walking’. These four stages within Nia Dance are what provide you with self-healing tools, lifestyle skills, and improvements to health, mind, and wellbeing.

Zoom Capturing a Nia With Belinda Class!

Attendance Options

If you’re looking for new fitness classes or a form of exercise to help with current mental health or wellbeing issues, then there’s a high chance you may not feel comfortable with attending social, physical classes, which is completely okay!

In-person classes are not for everyone and at Nia With Belinda, we understand that and have the option for individuals to attend each class via an online Zoom Session, which occurs and captures the live physical class.

Through Zoom, you have the choice of leaving your camera and microphone on or off during the class, allowing you to feel completely comfortable following along while still giving you a similar, social connection as if you were attending in person. Check out our blog on ways to set up your class and boost your connection here.
