<p>Do you find yourself wondering what you can do in your day to make it not only productive but help you both physically and mentally! I would encourage you to come along to Senior Nia Dance at Dance NZ, Hamilton!</p>

<p>Our Nia Dance Move to Heal class is perfect for those with limited mobility which often comes with age. Located at the Waikato Sports Fishing Club, come along for a cuppa tea and expand your social circle! You never know who you may meet!</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" width="783" height="1024" src="http://dancenz.co.nz/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/Screen-Shot-2022-02-09-at-11.33.34-AM-783x1024.png" alt="" class="wp-image-4258" srcset="http://dancenz.co.nz/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/Screen-Shot-2022-02-09-at-11.33.34-AM-783x1024.png 783w, http://dancenz.co.nz/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/Screen-Shot-2022-02-09-at-11.33.34-AM-480x627.png 480w" sizes="(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) 783px, 100vw" /></figure>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="importance-of-social-interaction"><strong>Importance Of Social Interaction</strong></h2>

<p>Loneliness is a prevalent problem among senior individuals, especially those who live alone. Opportunities to socialise may become more limited as one becomes older, but this does not negate the importance of social engagement for the elderly. Regular social engagement has been shown in studies to lead to happier and more fulfilled lives, which translates to greater long-term mental health for senior persons. Maintaining excellent mental and physical health requires staying socially active, whereas remaining isolated can significantly diminish a person&#8217;s quality of life.</p>

<p>Aside from the opportunity to live a higher quality of life, social interaction has a number of important health benefits for senior citizens, including a possible reduction in the risk of dementia and a wide range of physical issues, such as high blood pressure, arthritis, and cardiovascular activities.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-video"><video height="360" style="aspect-ratio: 640 / 360;" width="640" controls src="http://dancenz.co.nz/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/SENIORS.mp4"></video></figure>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="benefits-of-exercising-in-your-elder-years"><strong>Benefits Of Exercising In Your Elder Years</strong></h2>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="prevent-disease"><strong>Prevent Disease</strong></h3>

<p>Studies have shown that maintaining regular physical activity can help prevent many common diseases, such as <a href="http://www.heart.org/HEARTORG/">heart disease</a> and <a href="http://diabetes.org/">diabetes</a>. Exercise improves overall immune function, which is important for seniors as their immune systems are often compromised. Even light exercise, such as walking, can be a powerful tool for preventable disease management.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="improved-mental-health"><strong>Improved Mental Health</strong></h3>

<p>Exercising has a plethora of mental health benefits. Endorphins (the &#8220;feel good&#8221; hormone) are released during exercise and work as a stress reliever, leaving you feeling pleased and satisfied. Exercise has also been related to better sleep, which is particularly essential for older persons who frequently suffer from insomnia and irregular sleep patterns.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="decreased-risk-of-falls"><strong>Decreased Risk of Falls</strong></h3>

<p>&nbsp;Falls are more common among older persons, which can be terrible for their ability to maintain independence. Exercise increases strength and flexibility, which helps with balance and coordination, lowering the chance of falling. Falls take far longer for seniors to recover from, so everything that will help them avoid them in the first place is essential.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="improved-cognitive-function">Improved Cognitive Function</h3>

<p>Cognitive function is aided by regular physical activity and fine-tuned motor skills. Numerous studies show that physically active people have a lower risk of dementia, regardless of when they start a habit.</p>

<p>As you grow older, you&#8217;ll find you&#8217;re much more susceptible to injuries and prone to experiencing aches, pains and other health issues. Common include balance issues, cognitive deterioration, respiratory problems, and <a href="https://www.healthnavigator.org.nz/health-a-z/h/heart-disease/#:~:text=Heart%20disease%20is%20a%20general,known%20as%20'cardiovascular%20disease'." target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">heart disease</a>. It&#8217;s important as you age to stay on top of your health through the <a href="https://www.verywellfit.com/healthy-weight-loss-for-seniors-3496384" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">right fitness and foods</a>. However, finding the right exercises can be the hardest thing to do when taking into account current injuries and mobility levels. Luckily, this blog post today will be informing you of a <a href="http://dancenz.co.nz/live-classes/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">senior healing dance in Hamilton</a> that will help you <a href="https://www.onhealth.com/content/1/exercises_low_back_pain" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">recover from any pains</a> or injuries as well as provide numerous beneficial advantages through gentle, adaptable movement.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img decoding="async" width="994" height="614" src="http://dancenz.co.nz/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Screen-Shot-2021-11-25-at-5.51.07-PM.png" alt="" class="wp-image-3702" srcset="http://dancenz.co.nz/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Screen-Shot-2021-11-25-at-5.51.07-PM.png 994w, http://dancenz.co.nz/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Screen-Shot-2021-11-25-at-5.51.07-PM-980x605.png 980w, http://dancenz.co.nz/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Screen-Shot-2021-11-25-at-5.51.07-PM-480x296.png 480w" sizes="(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) and (max-width: 980px) 980px, (min-width: 981px) 994px, 100vw" /></figure>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>How Nia Dance Caters to Injuries and Seniors</strong></h2>

<p>The technique we&#8217;ll be talking about today is known as <a href="https://nianow.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Nia Dance</a>. Briefly mentioned in the previous paragraph, Nia Dance is an <a href="https://www.helpguide.org/articles/healthy-living/chair-exercises-and-limited-mobility-fitness.htm" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">extremely adaptable form of exercise</a>, meaning you can change movements to suit your body rather than strain it and still receive all of its benefits. Nia movement&#8217;s high changeability reduces the risk of further injury or exhaustion and makes participating more enjoyable, meaning you&#8217;ll want to take part more often rather than <a href="https://time.com/4282903/how-to-have-fun-working-out/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">hate the exercise you&#8217;re doing</a>.</p>

<p></p>

<p>Nia Dance is also a <a href="https://greatist.com/fitness/take-it-easy-21-unexpected-low-impact-workouts" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">non-impact type of fitness</a>, which means that the intensity level is quite low and movements are gentle and non-complex. This is ideal as a senior, especially if you&#8217;re <a href="https://www.everyoneactive.com/content-hub/fitness/top-10-tips-beginners/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">new to the fitness or dance scene</a> or have issues with mobility, pain or injuries. If you find that you have an amazing range of motion in your upper body but not so much in your lower body, which is common among seniors, Nia Dance can even cater to that too! Nia Dance can be performed while sitting down using only the range of your upper body; this method is quite commonly used!</p>

<p></p>

<p>Made up of <a href="http://dancenz.co.nz/7-cycles-of-nia-dance/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">7 unique cycles</a>, Nia Dance can stimulate not only your body but your mind and soul through the methods used in these cycles as well as the incorporation of <a href="https://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/consumer-health/in-depth/mindfulness-exercises/art-20046356" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">mindfulness techniques</a>. You can read about these cycles in our blog here.</p>

<p></p>

<p>Despite all its gentle movements and ability to be easily changed to suit your needs, Nia Dance is extremely effective with the benefits it provides. Some of the most commonly reported benefits of Nia Dance includes better hand-eye coordination and balance, improved spinal support and posture, increased abilities with movement and flexibility, pain relief, better muscular strength, higher circulation, improved organ and cognitive functioning, and strengthened cardiovascular system.</p>

Many of the exercises that are catered towards seniors aren&#8217;t able to provide a large and diverse variety of mental, physical, spiritual, social, and emotional benefits. This blog will be sharing knowledge on a wonderful, <a href="http://dancenz.co.nz/live-classes/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">gentle seniors movement in Hamilton</a> that has a large number of advantages and numerous participation options.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img decoding="async" width="1024" height="558" src="http://dancenz.co.nz/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Screen-Shot-2021-11-17-at-10.47.33-AM-1024x558.png" alt="" class="wp-image-3605" srcset="http://dancenz.co.nz/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Screen-Shot-2021-11-17-at-10.47.33-AM-1024x558.png 1024w, http://dancenz.co.nz/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Screen-Shot-2021-11-17-at-10.47.33-AM-980x534.png 980w, http://dancenz.co.nz/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Screen-Shot-2021-11-17-at-10.47.33-AM-480x262.png 480w" sizes="(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) and (max-width: 980px) 980px, (min-width: 981px) 1024px, 100vw" /></figure>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Nia Dance And Its Influence On Seniors</strong></h2>

<p><a href="https://nianow.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Nia Dance</a> is a one-of-a-kind exercise method that takes a <a href="https://www.fitnessfirst.com.hk/blog/holistic-fitness" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">holistic approach</a>, in the form of dance, to deliver benefits and tools to improve your <a href="https://www.bustle.com/articles/170117-13-ways-to-fix-your-life-when-it-feels-like-everything-is-going-wrong" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">lifestyle and attitude</a>. Also known under the name of the Nia Technique, Nia Dance is made up of nine different movement arts as well as <a href="https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLzKlB5g8oxrNl30wDatRBl92iEbY97rRh" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">powerful music</a>, and influential spoken and <a href="https://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/consumer-health/in-depth/mindfulness-exercises/art-20046356" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">mindfulness teachings</a>. Nia Dance is a tremendous tool for improving not just your physical health but also your mental, spiritual, social and emotional well-being through gentle movements.</p>

<p></p>

<p>A Nia Dance routine, whether performed like an experienced dancer or sitting down with soft actions, should always leave you feeling clear-headed, emotionally balanced, and happy. You may leave feeling energetic and productive, or more relaxed, depending on how you altered your movements throughout your Nia Dance practice to <a href="https://theeverygirl.com/15-realistic-fitness-goals-to-make-this-year-and-exactly-how-to-accomplish-them/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">align with your goals</a> going into the class.&nbsp;</p>

<p></p>

<p>Nia Dance is well-known to be a <a href="https://www.nhs.uk/live-well/exercise/easy-low-impact-exercises/#:~:text=Low%2Dimpact%20exercises%20can%20improve,the%20risk%20of%20heart%20disease." target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">non-impact form of exercise</a> and is highly adaptable to every person&#8217;s mobility levels, abilities, and other specific needs. This makes it a perfect routine for seniors to enjoy and follow along; Nia Dance can even be performed sitting down using just your upper body, while still offering the same benefits!</p>

<p></p>

<p>Nia Dance helps you utilise the pleasant emotions you feel throughout your Nia exercise outside of class and be able to feel these same emotions outside of classes or Nia workouts. As a result, the Nia Technique is more than a dance style as it can teach and motivate you to live a more meaningful, happier life.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>How Nia Dance Can Boost Your Happiness As a Senior</strong></h2>

<p><a href="https://nianow.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Nia Dance</a> is a <a href="https://healthyliving.azcentral.com/examples-high-low-impact-dance-8306.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">low-impact dance practice</a> that promotes a variety of physical, mental, social and spiritual health and happiness advantages in addition to <a href="https://www.healthline.com/health/how-to-increase-serotonin" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">increasing serotonin levels</a>. The dance style combines nine different movement art forms, including <a href="https://www.taichi.net.nz/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">tai-chi</a>, the <a href="https://alexandertechnique.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Alexander technique</a>, <a href="https://www.yogaalliance.org/YogaInternational" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">yoga</a>, and other styles of dance, as well as <a href="https://kesfitness.com/wellness/tui-na-massage-therapy/relationship-martial-arts-healing/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">healing and martial arts</a>.&nbsp;</p>

<p></p>

<p>Numerous studies have demonstrated that exercises like <a href="https://taichiinternational.org/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Tai Chi</a>, <a href="https://yogainternational.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Yoga</a> and other movement arts that inspire Nia Dance have profoundly positive benefits on elders&#8217; health and happiness, and provide the perfect environment for social connection. Because Nia Dance is the combination of these different arts, it provides an overwhelming number of senior social and happiness advantages.</p>

<p></p>

<p>Nia Dance consists of 52 <a href="https://training.mmlearn.org/blog/types-of-adaptive-clothing-for-seniors" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">highly-adaptable movements</a> made to work around your body type and abilities. This makes it ideal for everyone, especially elders, to engage in all movements and Nia Dance routines. It&#8217;s adaptability means you won&#8217;t be forcing motions through your body that feel uncomfortable or unnatural, lowering the danger of injury, exhaustion, or discomfort.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Experience Social Nia Dance Classes as a Senior at Dance NZ</strong></h2>

<p>Nia Dance is a wonderful way to meet new people if you have the opportunity to participate in the right class for you. <a href="http://dancenz.co.nz/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Dance NZ</a> is a New Zealand Nia Dance organisation with classes based online through <a href="https://zoom.us/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Zoom</a>, and in-person at different Raglan and Hamilton venues.</p>

<p></p>

<p>There are <a href="http://dancenz.co.nz/live-classes/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">five classes</a> available to take part in at Dance NZ with in-person and online options, each designed differently to provide specific benefits and suit particular needs and abilities. As a senior, the most suitable classes would be <a href="http://dancenz.co.nz/injury-recovery-dance-hamilton/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Nia Dance Move to Heal</a> (11:15 a.m., Tuesday) and <a href="http://dancenz.co.nz/online-social-beginners-dance/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Gentle Nia</a> (9:30 a.m., Wednesday). Both classes are currently only accessible through Zoom due to Covid restrictions in Hamilton, however, Dance NZ and their classes will resume at their various, lovely venues, like Saint Aidan&#8217;s Hall, soon.&nbsp;</p>

<p></p>

<p>Even though classes are currently being held online, you can still experience a strong social connection with new peers and your Nia Dance instructor through Zoom. You can create new friendships across the internet during your workout and once lockdown has been lifted, have the opportunity to meet your new peers in person outside of classes and at in-person sessions.</p>

<p></p>

<p>If you find yourself struggling to attend specific class times and dates, don&#8217;t stress! Dance NZ offers <a href="http://dancenz.co.nz/buy-a-replay/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">replays of classes that can be purchased</a> for a 24-hour period. All seniors are currently able to receive an incredible 40% discount on all purchases on the Dance NZ website so book your classes while this fabulous deal is still available!</p>

<p><a href="https://www.mindbodygreen.com/0-10143/7-ways-to-create-more-joy-in-your-life.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Creating joy and remaining happy</a> is an important part of life to focus on for everyone. As you become older, you may find life to become more stressful so <a href="https://init4thelongrun.com/2018/01/25/create-joy/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">staying joyful</a> is even more important. This blog post will be discussing a joyful senior dance in Raglan that is bound to <a href="https://tinybuddha.com/blog/10-ways-lift-spirits-youre-tough-week/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">boost your spirits</a> and leave you feeling like you&#8217;re on top of the world.</p>

<p></p>

<p>Active activities, such as <a href="https://www.thestatesman.com/features/dance-can-lift-spirits-tough-times-1502965873.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">dance</a>, are highly recommended for older individuals. Not only does it keep you active, but many <a href="https://hms.harvard.edu/news-events/publications-archive/brain/dancing-brain#:~:text=Other%20studies%20show%20that%20dance,term%20memory%2C%20and%20spatial%20recognition." target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">studies have shown that dance</a> produces high levels of serotonin. <a href="https://www.hormone.org/your-health-and-hormones/glands-and-hormones-a-to-z/hormones/serotonin#:~:text=Serotonin%20is%20the%20key%20hormone,sleeping%2C%20eating%2C%20and%20digestion." target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Serotonin</a> is the chemical in your brain responsible for making you feel good and happy. All dance styles help to produce serotonin, including <a href="https://nianow.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Nia Dance</a>.</p>

<p></p>

<p><a href="https://www.healthline.com/health/how-to-increase-serotonin" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Increasing your serotonin</a> through Nia Dance can lead to amazing benefits such as improved long-term memory, reduce stress, and create new neural connections. But what exactly is Nia Dance and what other benefits can it bring to contribute to your happiness as a senior?</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img decoding="async" width="1024" height="905" src="http://dancenz.co.nz/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Screen-Shot-2021-10-13-at-8.37.29-PM-1-1024x905.png" alt="" class="wp-image-3057" srcset="http://dancenz.co.nz/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Screen-Shot-2021-10-13-at-8.37.29-PM-1-1024x905.png 1024w, http://dancenz.co.nz/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Screen-Shot-2021-10-13-at-8.37.29-PM-1-980x866.png 980w, http://dancenz.co.nz/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Screen-Shot-2021-10-13-at-8.37.29-PM-1-480x424.png 480w" sizes="(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) and (max-width: 980px) 980px, (min-width: 981px) 1024px, 100vw" /></figure>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Reclaim Joy Back Into Your Life With Nia Dance</strong></h2>

<p>Nia Dance is a <a href="https://www.nhs.uk/live-well/exercise/easy-low-impact-exercises/#:~:text=Low%2Dimpact%20exercises%20can%20improve,the%20risk%20of%20heart%20disease." target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">non-impact dance technique</a> that encourages to provide many physical, mental and spiritual health and happiness benefits through various other methods aside from boosting serotonin. The dance style is made up of nine various movement art forms, including <a href="https://www.taichi.net.nz/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">tai-chi</a> and other types of <a href="https://pursuit.unimelb.edu.au/articles/the-healing-history-of-dance" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">dance, healing</a> and <a href="https://www.chansmartialarts.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">martial forms</a>. Numerous studies have found that activities like <a href="https://www.taoisttaichi.org/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Tai Chi</a> and other movement arts that inspire Nia Dance have profoundly beneficial effects for seniors as well as overall happiness.</p>

<p></p>

<p>Nia Dance is made up of 52 distinct movements that can be easily adapted to your specific body type and skills. This makes it perfect for anyone to participate, particularly seniors. This means you won&#8217;t be forcing motions through your body that feel unnatural, reducing the risk of getting hurt, tired or uncomfortable after a Nia Dance practice.</p>

<p>&nbsp;</p>

<p>As mentioned in the opening of this blog, participating in Nia Dance provides many <a href="https://www.southernliving.com/healthy-living/how-dancing-can-boost-health-happiness" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">benefits to your happiness</a>. Nia Dance also offers a diverse range of well-being and health advantages that can, in turn, also make you feel happier as a result. Some benefits of Nia Dance that can contribute towards your happiness includes a pleasurable attitude, calm energy, pain relief, higher self-esteem, reduced depressive symptoms and anxiety, and renewed mobility and flexibility.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img decoding="async" width="1024" height="537" src="http://dancenz.co.nz/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Screen-Shot-2021-10-13-at-8.36.51-PM-1024x537.png" alt="" class="wp-image-3054" srcset="http://dancenz.co.nz/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Screen-Shot-2021-10-13-at-8.36.51-PM-1024x537.png 1024w, http://dancenz.co.nz/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Screen-Shot-2021-10-13-at-8.36.51-PM-980x514.png 980w, http://dancenz.co.nz/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Screen-Shot-2021-10-13-at-8.36.51-PM-480x252.png 480w" sizes="(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) and (max-width: 980px) 980px, (min-width: 981px) 1024px, 100vw" /></figure>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Dance to Happiness at Dance NZ</strong></h2>

<p><a href="http://dancenz.co.nz/gentle-dance-classes-raglan/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Gentle Nia</a> and <a href="http://dancenz.co.nz/acc-recovery-dance-hamilton/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Nia Dance Move to Heal</a> are two Nia Dance sessions provided at Dance NZ that are ideal for seniors to engage in to reclaim joy. Physical classes are held at various locations within the Hamilton and Raglan region. Online classes are held on <a href="https://zoom.us/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Zoom</a> and capture in-person classes live. This allows people who are not in the area, or who wish to participate in Nia Dance lessons from the comfort of their own home, to participate at Dance NZ. You can learn more about how to maximise your viewing and participation in online classes <a href="http://dancenz.co.nz/how-to-attend-online-exercise-classes/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">here</a>.</p>

<p></p>

<p><a href="http://dancenz.co.nz/buy-a-replay/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">24-hour purchasable class replays</a> are also available on the Dance NZ website. These are ideal for people who can&#8217;t attend classes or want to have extra guided Nia Dance workouts. These can be purchased on the Dance NZ website here, and are available to view as many times as you wish within 24 hours.</p>

<p></p>

<p>In terms of classes for seniors, <a href="http://dancenz.co.nz/beginners-social-dance-raglan/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Gentle Nia</a> is the greatest class to fit a wide variety of seniors since it reworks Nia Dance movements to make them accessible for those with restricted mobility and flexibility. <a href="http://dancenz.co.nz/injury-recovery-dance-hamilton/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Nia Dance Move to Heal</a> is a Nia Dance class for elders and people with restricted mobility due to injury or illness. It&#8217;s also a registered ACC rehabilitation programme. The exercises in this class are similar to those in Gentle Nia, but they&#8217;re gentler and designed as a Waikato Strong &amp; Stable programme that follows the national Live Stronger for Longer concept.</p>

<p><span data-preserver-spaces="true"></span></p>
<p><span data-preserver-spaces="true"><a href="https://www.lifeline.ca/en/resources/fitness-benefits-of-tai-chi-for-seniors/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Many studies</a> have discovered that kinds of exercise such as dancing and <a href="https://dailycaring.com/3-easy-tai-chi-videos-for-seniors-prevent-falls-improve-balance-and-strength-video/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Tai Chi</a> have extraordinary positive benefits on specific issues that seniors face. Nia Dance is comprised of 9 total movement art forms that include <a href="https://www.healthline.com/health/senior-health/ta-chi" target="_blank" rel="noopener">tai-chi</a> and 3 different <a href="https://www.agespace.org/senior-dance-classes" target="_blank" rel="noopener">forms of dance</a>. </span></p>
<p><span data-preserver-spaces="true"></span></p>
<p><span data-preserver-spaces="true"></span><span data-preserver-spaces="true">These forms that inspire Nia Dance movements originate from various and unique <a href="https://www.kesfitness.com/wellness/tui-na-massage-therapy/relationship-martial-arts-healing/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">martial, healing</a>, and <a href="https://dec.co.nz/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">dance arts</a>. <p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><span data-preserver-spaces="true">Nia Dance is comprised of 52 different movements that adapt and change based on your body and abilities. This means you&#8217;re not forcing movements through your body that don&#8217;t feel natural which means no risk of injuring yourself, as well as not feeling tired or sore after a Nia Dance workout.</span></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><span data-preserver-spaces="true">There are many well-being and health benefits that arise from participating in Nia Dance. Some well-being benefits include decreased anxiety and depressive symptoms, renewed productive energy, increased self-esteem, a peaceful and joyful attitude on life, and increased joy through new social relationships.</span></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><span data-preserver-spaces="true">Some health benefits include reduced muscle aches and tension, pain relief, increased mobility and joint flexibility, supported posture, enhanced cognitive and organ functioning, increased circulation, improved cardiovascular health, and muscle toning.</span></p>

<p><span data-preserver-spaces="true">This allows those who are not located in the Raglan and Hamilton area, located overseas or prefer participating in the comfort of their own home the ability to still take part in Nia Dance classes at Dance NZ. It can be performed standing up in a spacious environment or sitting down using only your upper body.</span></p>

<p>But what is Nia Dance? Well, Nia Dance is a unique blend of <a href="https://www.goldenlion.com.au/dim-mak/healing-art/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">martial arts, healing arts</a>, and <a href="https://www.jcfs.org/blog/dancemovement-therapy-healing-art" target="_blank" rel="noopener">dance arts</a>, with 52 total motions that make up the practice. This allows for tremendous variety and high adaptability within the movements. Nia Dance is a <a href="https://www.asccare.com/best-low-impact-exercises-seniors/#:~:text=Swimming%20is%20also%20known%20as,tone%20up%20and%20slim%20down.&amp;text=Walking%20is%20an%20aerobic%20exercise,good%20for%20overall%20body%20conditioning." target="_blank" rel="noopener">non-impact, free-flowing</a> type of dance that can be tailored to each individual&#8217;s specific needs and skills.</p>

<p>With <a href="https://covid19.govt.nz/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">lockdown currently underway</a>, this can only worsen symptoms. Nia Dance is a wonderful opportunity to <a href="https://avantgardeseniorliving.com/blog/5-tips-to-expand-your-social-circle-after-retirement/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">broaden your social circle</a> and form new, long-lasting friendships, even over Zoom. Loneliness and other depressive symptoms can be reduced by the encouragement and enthusiasm you receive from not only your peers but also your teacher. </p>
<p>As said prior, Nia Dance can provide a variety of benefits. This practice can even help with sensory stimulation as well as cognitive health and organ functions </p>
<p>Other benefits include joint, muscular, and general pain alleviation, improved muscle and joint strength, improved organ function, improved circulation, weight loss, reduced symptoms of anxiety and depression, higher levels of mobility, and more.</p></div>

<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>This allows every participant to feel comfortable and to complete the workout at the pace most comfortable to them.
