<p>On the treadmill, are you tired of walking in circles? Are you tired of the constant hammering of aerobics? If the phrase &#8220;enjoyable workout&#8221; sounds like an oxymoron to you, it&#8217;s time to try NIA. The acronym NIA (pronounced NEE-ah) refers to neuromuscular integrative action, and it&#8217;s one of the newest mind-body fitness fads.</p>



<p>According to fans, NIA enhances both physical and emotional well-being by combining the fluidity and focus of Tai Chi and yoga, the elegance and spontaneity of modern dance, and the intensity and explosiveness of martial arts.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="what-does-a-nia-workout-entail"><strong>What Does A Nia Workout Entail?</strong></h2>



<p>The first step is to remove your shoes. The instructor then conducts the class in deep-breathing exercises as calm music plays, allowing students to relax while concentrating on the connection between their bare feet and the land.</p>



<p>Students begin to sway, shimmy, and spin as the beat picks up. Some people clap while others rock and roll. Some people burst into spontaneous singing as the freestyle dance continues. Kicks and punches in the style of Tae Kwon Do relieve stress while increasing heart rate.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="uplifting-effects-of-nia-dance"><strong>Uplifting Effects of Nia Dance&nbsp;</strong></h2>



<p>Several excellent treatments programmed for patients with Parkinson&#8217;s disease and other chronic diseases have incorporated Nia exercise techniques. Exercising may be especially beneficial for those with neurologic disorders, according to a growing body of studies, with benefits in movement, balance, and even cognition. Mind-body techniques like tai chi, for example, have been shown to improve movement and reduce stress levels in patients with Parkinson&#8217;s disease (PD).</p>



<p>Our Parkinson’s Dance classes are subsidized to only $5 per class, with caregivers having a free entry. I encourage you all to try it out if it is something that sounds suited to your needs.</p>

<p>Keeping mentally sharp</p>



<p>According to a study published in the Journal of Cognitive Enhancement, dancing on a regular basis can assist healthy older persons to retain or improving their cognition. The brain benefits from multisensory stimulation, social contact, and learning movement sequences.</p>



<p>Improving strength, flexibility and agility&nbsp;</p>



<p>According to a study published in the Journal of Aging and Physical Activity, dancing is a multidimensional physical activity that helps older persons enhance their aerobic power, lower body muscle endurance, balance, agility, and gait.</p>



<p>Dancing away the blues&nbsp;</p>



<p>According to a Therapeutic Recreation Journal study, aerobic dance, ballroom dancing, social dancing, tango, and dance movement therapy were beneficial in boosting mood and lowering depression in older persons living in retirement communities or alone in their homes.</p>



<p>Ease Chronic Pain</p>



<p>According to a study published in the journal Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine, dance-based treatment for fibromyalgia patients resulted in a significant reduction in pain. According to Geriatric Nursing, older persons with arthritis experienced less knee and hip discomfort and were able to walk faster after participating in regular 45-minute dancing therapy lessons.</p>

<p>Nia courses are a rich experience for the entire body, engaging everything from the bigger muscles of the body to the fingertips and toes. The practice combines Tai Chi, Aikido, Tae Kwon Do, Modern Dance, Duncan Dance, Jazz, Moshe Feldenkrais&#8217; work, the Alexander Technique, and Yoga to give you a sensory sample of each one and a sense of its chemistry.</p>



<p>This one-of-a-kind combination helps you to strike a balance between the feminine and the masculine, the precise and the fluid, the forceful and the yielding. We can express and explore different elements of our physical, emotional, and spiritual selves by combining various movement forms.&nbsp;</p>



<p>These movements connect us to a variety of energies, our breathing, and our personalities, all of which work together to keep the body lively and healthy while also allowing it to move easily and enjoyably.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="importance-of-grounding"><strong>Importance of Grounding&nbsp;</strong></h2>



<p>Grounding, sometimes known as earthing, is a therapeutic practice in which you engage in activities that &#8220;ground&#8221; or electrically reconnect you to the earth.</p>



<p>Earthing science and grounding physics are used in this technique to describe how electrical charges from the earth can have beneficial impacts on your body. This sort of grounding therapy differs slightly from the technique utilised in mental health treatment.</p>



<p>Conditions that have been noted to be improved by grounding include:</p>

<p>I hope you all have had a fantastic week so far! Please feel free to come along to our outdoor Nia Dance in Hamilton located at Steele Park tomorrow at 9.30am. It will be a lovely event and I hope to see you all there!</p>



<p>We also have the same event happening on the 18th February at 5.30 pm located at the Raglan Growers Market. It is a fantastic event that I know you will all enjoy.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="freedom-dance-for-parkinson-s"><strong>Freedom Dance For Parkinson&#8217;s&nbsp;</strong></h2>



<p>Next Friday on the 4th of February, Dance NZ will be starting a Freedom Dance class for those who live with Parkinson’s. It is a joyful class that combines seated and standing dance specially designed for those living with Parkinson’s. Using a modified Nia Dance technique, Belinda provides a class to suit everyone&#8217;s requirements.</p>



<p></p>



<p>The class runs from 12.00-1.00pm every Friday at Saint Johns Hall, 20 Wellington Street, Hamilton and runs through the school term only. All Parkinson’s Dance classes are sponsored and are only $5 a class, with the first one being&nbsp;<strong>FREE</strong>! Caregivers are also welcome free of charge.&nbsp;</p>

<p>There has been a lot of interesting research between the brain, dance and slowing the progression of Parkinson’s. Dance has been used as therapy for Parkison’s for a long time. It has been shown to improve many of the struggles which are commonly paired with the disease. From balance, motor and cognitive issues, it has been seen how to dance, especially low impact dance such as Nia Dance can help ease these symptoms in some participants.&nbsp;</p>

This qualifies her as a highly knowledgeable and attentive Nia Dance instructor.</p>

<p>It feels so cool to see the dynamics of what happens when men step onto the dance floor with a group of <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nQuYykrcWn0" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">women dancing</a>. I see the men usually going straight to the front of the group and giving it their absolute best. I feel their excitement to want to move their bodies and do their best at following the guided movement. </p>



<p>The<a href="https://anyflip.com/xuga/xnbv/basic" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"> Nia Technique</a> brings men and women to the dance floor as singles dancing and as couples</p>



<p>The women are only too happy to take a back row approach beside the men and let them do what men do best, &#8220;take the Lead&#8221;</p>



<p>This is a typical situation and yet there is always an exception, sometimes the men choose to enjoy dancing with a group from the back of the class and be inspired by the gracefully expressive nature of a woman dancing. </p>



<p>It is a wonderful feeling to see a group of men and women dancing and enjoying these dynamics, and I see it bring out the best in <a href="https://missbish.com/what-do-you-love-about-being-a-woman/">what a woman enjoys about being a woman</a>, and <a href="https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/men-revealed-top-40-best-11841514">what a man feels good about being a man</a>.</p>

<p>The in the sober world of <a href="https://www.facebook.com/sameguysdancing/videos/217-fleetwood-mac-dreams/347148263239917/">men dancing </a>this is believe it or not a common question most women ask. Us women just want to see and enjoy the company of men dancing. The men will say they are shy and scared to make a fool of themselves, The whole two left feet excuse. </p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Men take the lead in a dance class , naturally they pick up the moves faster.</h2>



<p>As a Nia Technique teacher, I see men coming to dance with us more and more. To the sheer delight of the women dancing the men seem to naturally &#8220;get&#8221; the pattern solving aspect of the choreography in Nia dance and they generally pick up the dance moves quicker.</p>



<p>It&#8217;s a delight to see men consciously choosing to take care of their health and fitness, often this happens as a <a href="http://dancenz.co.nz/injury-recovery-class-raglan/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">recovery program</a> and as an easeful approach to exercise<a href="https://www.lauriebass.com/blog-dynamic/56-nia-for-men" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"> men are finding the pleasure of Dance</a></p>

<p>At Dance NZ, Classic Nia Tuesday classes are perfect if you&#8217;re looking for a fun dance class in Hamilton CBD. It&#8217;s also an ideal class to participate in before heading home after a tiring day. A simple 1-hour Nia Dance workout will leave you <a href="https://www.uofmhealth.org/health-library/uz2209" target="_blank" rel="noopener">feeling relaxed</a>, and help stress and tension melt away. The Tuesday Classic Nia class currently hosts a range of participants, from complete beginners to those who have been dancing with Dance NZ for 3+ years.</p>

<p>The Tuesday Classic Nia classes are held at the <a href="https://www.waikatosportfishing.co.nz/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Waikato Fishing and Sports Club</a> at 5:30 pm. Or more commonly &#8221; Oh I have two left feet! &#8220;</p>

<p>2020 the year I hear people say with a daunting feeling sigh afterward! Yeah, it was a difficult one. A silver lining for Nia Technique Teachers as we were encouraged to offer our classes online. Bringing more value and accessibility to people who wanted to keep up their social interactions and of course their fitness.  </p>

Then what makes me laugh is when I hear that sometimes people attend the coffee meet-up and for whatever reason unable to join the class that day, so they just went for the cuppa and chat!! </p>

<p>I offer a 24 Hour replay of the class. It is a non-downloadable 24hr link made during every class. For my students who have purchased a TERM PASS ( prepaid before the start of the School Terms ) this is sent to them automatically if they miss the class and is freely available to them the next day.</p>
