Do you find yourself wondering what you can do in your day to make it not only productive but help you both physically and mentally! I would encourage you to come along to Senior Nia Dance at Dance NZ, Hamilton!

Our Nia Dance Move to Heal class is perfect for those with limited mobility which often comes with age. Located at the Waikato Sports Fishing Club, come along for a cuppa tea and expand your social circle! You never know who you may meet!

Importance Of Social Interaction

Loneliness is a prevalent problem among senior individuals, especially those who live alone. Opportunities to socialise may become more limited as one becomes older, but this does not negate the importance of social engagement for the elderly. Regular social engagement has been shown in studies to lead to happier and more fulfilled lives, which translates to greater long-term mental health for senior persons. Maintaining excellent mental and physical health requires staying socially active, whereas remaining isolated can significantly diminish a person’s quality of life.

Aside from the opportunity to live a higher quality of life, social interaction has a number of important health benefits for senior citizens, including a possible reduction in the risk of dementia and a wide range of physical issues, such as high blood pressure, arthritis, and cardiovascular activities.

Benefits Of Exercising In Your Elder Years

Prevent Disease

Studies have shown that maintaining regular physical activity can help prevent many common diseases, such as heart disease and diabetes. Exercise improves overall immune function, which is important for seniors as their immune systems are often compromised. Even light exercise, such as walking, can be a powerful tool for preventable disease management.

Improved Mental Health

Exercising has a plethora of mental health benefits. Endorphins (the “feel good” hormone) are released during exercise and work as a stress reliever, leaving you feeling pleased and satisfied. Exercise has also been related to better sleep, which is particularly essential for older persons who frequently suffer from insomnia and irregular sleep patterns.

Decreased Risk of Falls

Falls are more common among older persons, which can be terrible for their ability to maintain independence. Exercise increases strength and flexibility, which helps with balance and coordination, lowering the chance of falling. Falls take far longer for seniors to recover from, so everything that will help them avoid them in the first place is essential.

Improved Cognitive Function

Cognitive function is aided by regular physical activity and fine-tuned motor skills. Numerous studies show that physically active people have a lower risk of dementia, regardless of when they start a habit.

A Classic Nia class is a barefoot, sensory-based, cardio movement class set to an eclectic mix of global music. Nia inspires and educates you to move and live with embodied joy by combining the newest mind-body science with ancient wisdom. Try this grounding awareness dance in Hamilton at Dance NZ today!

Nia is designed to nurture, condition, and nourish your body and soul now and in the future by providing a connection to pleasure.

Nia emphasises fitness-dancing, mindfulness, neuroplasticity, self-healing, and, most importantly, Nia is fun. Nia is inspired by dance, martial arts, and healing arts.

Nia courses are a rich experience for the entire body, engaging everything from the bigger muscles of the body to the fingertips and toes. The practice combines Tai Chi, Aikido, Tae Kwon Do, Modern Dance, Duncan Dance, Jazz, Moshe Feldenkrais’ work, the Alexander Technique, and Yoga to give you a sensory sample of each one and a sense of its chemistry.

This one-of-a-kind combination helps you to strike a balance between the feminine and the masculine, the precise and the fluid, the forceful and the yielding. We can express and explore different elements of our physical, emotional, and spiritual selves by combining various movement forms.

These movements connect us to a variety of energies, our breathing, and our personalities, all of which work together to keep the body lively and healthy while also allowing it to move easily and enjoyably.

Importance of Grounding

Grounding, sometimes known as earthing, is a therapeutic practice in which you engage in activities that “ground” or electrically reconnect you to the earth.

Earthing science and grounding physics are used in this technique to describe how electrical charges from the earth can have beneficial impacts on your body. This sort of grounding therapy differs slightly from the technique utilised in mental health treatment.

Conditions that have been noted to be improved by grounding include:

– Chronic fatigue

– Chronic pain

– Anxiety and Depression

– Sleep disorders

– Cardiovascular Disease

Our outdoor Nia Dance classes are the PERFECT opportunity to become one with the earth and utilise what Nia Dance has to offer.

Importance of Bodily Awareness

We are more likely to recognise stress, anxiety, and tension as we become more conscious of our bodies and their sensations. The body detects stress much more quickly than the mind. The body’s way of letting you know you’re stressed is when muscles begin to stiffen.

Nia improves the health of the body, mind, and spirit. Each Nia class instils mindfulness in your dance movement, leaving you feeling invigorated, cognitively strong, and emotionally balanced. Once you have recognised any stresses you have, Nia Dance can help you get one step closer to a healthier, happier life.

The Impact of Nia Dance on the Body

Nia Dance (also known as Nia Technique) is a unique dancing technique that mixes martial arts, healing arts, and dance. It combines these lessons into a combination of movements that is gentle on and positively affects your body, including your muscles, tendons, posture and joints. It is made up of 52 individual motions.

Nia Dance can provide a broad variety of recovery advantages since each movement has its origins 3 different healing arts. Other than helping your body’s muscles and joints, Nia Dance can also heavily aid with general physical discomfort, develop higher joint mobility and flexibility, improve organ function, and increase bodily circulation.

Nia Dance may also make the recovery process more pleasurable and easy by providing social support and relationships. In a judgment-free, quiet, and open environment, not only is rehabilitation more enjoyable, but it also enhances mental and emotional well-being, which is crucial throughout recovery. The injury-recovery Nia Dance class at Dance NZ provides all of this, so read on!

This blog will be talking about a seniors happiness dance in Hamilton that will fill you joy, and is easy and fun to take part in.

Join A Happy Senior Exercise With Nia Dance

What exactly is this amazing dance? Nia Dance is a low-impact dance practice that, in addition to raising serotonin (happy chemicals) levels, offers a number of physical, emotional, social, and spiritual health and happiness benefits. The dance style incorporates tai-chi, the Alexander technique, yoga, and other dance, healing and martial arts.

Numerous studies have shown that Tai Chi, Yoga, and other movement arts that inspire Nia Dance have profoundly great health and happiness advantages for elders, as well as providing the ideal atmosphere for social interaction. Because Nia Dance is a fusion of several distinct disciplines, it offers a plethora of social and emotional benefits to seniors.

Nia Dance is made up of 52 highly flexible movements that are designed to work with your specific body type and talents. This makes it suitable for everyone to participate in all exercises and Nia Dance routines, especially the elderly. Its flexibility means you won’t be forcing uncomfortable or unnatural motions through your body, reducing the risk of injury, weariness, or pain.

Nia Dance provides various social and emotional advantages for seniors, including an improved positive mood, calm energy, a supportive teaching atmosphere, a compassionate instructor, pain relief, better self-esteem, decreased depressive symptoms and anxiety, and recovered mobility and flexibility.

Briefly mentioned in the previous paragraph, Nia Dance is an extremely adaptable form of exercise, meaning you can change movements to suit your body rather than strain it and still receive all of its benefits. Nia movement’s high changeability reduces the risk of further injury or exhaustion and makes participating more enjoyable, meaning you’ll want to take part more often rather than hate the exercise you’re doing.

Nia Dance is also a non-impact type of fitness, which means that the intensity level is quite low and movements are gentle and non-complex. This is ideal as a senior, especially if you’re new to the fitness or dance scene or have issues with mobility, pain or injuries. If you find that you have an amazing range of motion in your upper body but not so much in your lower body, which is common among seniors, Nia Dance can even cater to that too! Nia Dance can be performed while sitting down using only the range of your upper body; this method is quite commonly used!

Made up of 7 unique cycles, Nia Dance can stimulate not only your body but your mind and soul through the methods used in these cycles as well as the incorporation of mindfulness techniques. You can read about these cycles in our blog here.

Despite all its gentle movements and ability to be easily changed to suit your needs, Nia Dance is extremely effective with the benefits it provides. Some of the most commonly reported benefits of Nia Dance includes better hand-eye coordination and balance, improved spinal support and posture, increased abilities with movement and flexibility, pain relief, better muscular strength, higher circulation, improved organ and cognitive functioning, and strengthened cardiovascular system.

Experience Healing of the Mind, Body and Soul at Dance NZ

Many of the exercises that are catered towards seniors aren’t able to provide a large and diverse variety of mental, physical, spiritual, social, and emotional benefits. This blog will be sharing knowledge on a wonderful, gentle seniors movement in Hamilton that has a large number of advantages and numerous participation options.

Nia Dance And Its Influence On Seniors

Nia Dance is a one-of-a-kind exercise method that takes a holistic approach, in the form of dance, to deliver benefits and tools to improve your lifestyle and attitude. Also known under the name of the Nia Technique, Nia Dance is made up of nine different movement arts as well as powerful music, and influential spoken and mindfulness teachings. Nia Dance is a tremendous tool for improving not just your physical health but also your mental, spiritual, social and emotional well-being through gentle movements.

A Nia Dance routine, whether performed like an experienced dancer or sitting down with soft actions, should always leave you feeling clear-headed, emotionally balanced, and happy. You may leave feeling energetic and productive, or more relaxed, depending on how you altered your movements throughout your Nia Dance practice to align with your goals going into the class.

Nia Dance is well-known to be a non-impact form of exercise and is highly adaptable to every person’s mobility levels, abilities, and other specific needs. This makes it a perfect routine for seniors to enjoy and follow along; Nia Dance can even be performed sitting down using just your upper body, while still offering the same benefits!

Nia Dance helps you utilise the pleasant emotions you feel throughout your Nia exercise outside of class and be able to feel these same emotions outside of classes or Nia workouts. As a result, the Nia Technique is more than a dance style as it can teach and motivate you to live a more meaningful, happier life.

The Nia Technique is comprised of 9 diverse movement arts, originating from the healing, martial, and dance scene, and has influential music and verbal teachings. Combining all of these factors, Nia Dance is a powerful tool for positively boosting not just your physical health but the state of your mental and emotional well-being.

During a Nia workout, there are 7 different cycles that you’ll be guided through. Each cycle affects your body differently, with movement speed and style changing to provide you with a variety of benefits. Some of these include reduced anxiety or depressive symptoms, removal of stress, calmer energy, improved feelings of happiness, increased productivity and much more.

After a Nia workout, you can expect to always feel clear-headed, emotionally balanced and significantly happier. Depending on how you adapted your movements during your Nia Dance workout and your intentions or goals heading into the routine, you may also find yourself leaving energised and feeling productive, or perhaps more relaxed and calm.

Nia Dance also teaches different mindfulness practices and verbal teachings from inspired movement arts so that you have the tools and skills to apply the positive emotions you experience during your Nia workout outside of classes. Through this, Nia Dance is more than just a dance style and can teach and inspire you to lead a more fulfilling, happier lifestyle with a joyous attitude.

Few places in New Zealand offer Nia Dance classes, and even fewer that offer those classes online. Because Nia Dance is limited in New Zealand, it can be difficult finding classes in your town, making online sessions valuable. Online Nia Dance classes are needed now more than ever due to Covid too and the event of lockdowns. If you’re looking for online Nia Dance classes or in-person sessions based in Hamilton and Raglan, look no further! Dance NZ is the answer!

A 24-hour replay is made available to class attendees after each class.

How Nia Dance Can Boost Your Happiness As a Senior

Nia Dance is a low-impact dance practice that promotes a variety of physical, mental, social and spiritual health and happiness advantages in addition to increasing serotonin levels. The dance style combines nine different movement art forms, including tai-chi, the Alexander technique, yoga, and other styles of dance, as well as healing and martial arts.

Numerous studies have demonstrated that exercises like Tai Chi, Yoga and other movement arts that inspire Nia Dance have profoundly positive benefits on elders’ health and happiness, and provide the perfect environment for social connection. Because Nia Dance is the combination of these different arts, it provides an overwhelming number of senior social and happiness advantages.

Nia Dance consists of 52 highly-adaptable movements made to work around your body type and abilities. This makes it ideal for everyone, especially elders, to engage in all movements and Nia Dance routines. It’s adaptability means you won’t be forcing motions through your body that feel uncomfortable or unnatural, lowering the danger of injury, exhaustion, or discomfort.

Nia Dance has several benefits for your social levels and happiness as a senior such as an increased positive attitude, calm energy, a supportive teaching environment, a patient instructor, pain alleviation, increased self-esteem, reduced depressive symptoms and anxiety, and restored mobility and flexibility.

Experience Social Nia Dance Classes as a Senior at Dance NZ

Nia Dance is a wonderful way to meet new people if you have the opportunity to participate in the right class for you. Dance NZ is a New Zealand Nia Dance organisation with classes based online through Zoom, and in-person at different Raglan and Hamilton venues.

There are five classes available to take part in at Dance NZ with in-person and online options, each designed differently to provide specific benefits and suit particular needs and abilities. As a senior, the most suitable classes would be Nia Dance Move to Heal (11:15 a.m., Tuesday) and Gentle Nia (9:30 a.m., Wednesday). Both classes are currently only accessible through Zoom due to Covid restrictions in Hamilton, however, Dance NZ and their classes will resume at their various, lovely venues, like Saint Aidan’s Hall, soon.

Even though classes are currently being held online, you can still experience a strong social connection with new peers and your Nia Dance instructor through Zoom. You can create new friendships across the internet during your workout and once lockdown has been lifted, have the opportunity to meet your new peers in person outside of classes and at in-person sessions.

If you find yourself struggling to attend specific class times and dates, don’t stress! Dance NZ offers replays of classes that can be purchased for a 24-hour period. All seniors are currently able to receive an incredible 40% discount on all purchases on the Dance NZ website so book your classes while this fabulous deal is still available!

As a senior, it can be hard finding new activities that are both social and fun, and can accommodate your needs and abilities. Dance is a well-recommended form of fitness for seniors; numerous health benefits come from it, as well as lifestyle and social benefits too. Today’s blog will be discussing a fun social seniors dance that’s easily adaptable for all body types and strengths.

The Fun and Social Side of Nia Dance

Nia Dance is an easily adjustable and non-impact form of dance and exercise, making it an ideal social activity for everybody. Because of its high level of adaptability, any Nia Dance session you attend will likely provide you with the opportunity to meet a diverse range of individuals, people you may not have the chance to befriend under any other circumstances.

Its easiness to adapt comes from its unique design; Nia Dance takes inspiration from nine different movement arts, each offering their own take on physical actions and verbal teachings. Some of these movement arts are martial, healing and dance, and include tai-chi, aikido, and yoga.

The diverse combination of all these arts offers great benefits for your wellbeing and health, especially as a senior. Some of these advantages include improved mobility, greater flexibility, loosened joints, enhanced balance and coordination, better posture, and heightened organ, brain and circulation functions.

Nia Dances adaptability allows you to perform movements and routines standing up, using your full body, or sitting down with the motion of just your upper body. The movements of Nia Dance were designed to not make you sweat or tire out, and have a highly reduced risk of injury.

This means you can optimise the fun and enjoyment you’re having each Nia Dance workout because you’re not pushing your body to its limits and, instead, listening to what flows best through your body. Having this freedom of moving gives you more room in your mind and body to open yourself up to having fun.

Nia Dance For Seniors at Dance NZ

At Dance NZ, there are five classes available both online and in-person. For seniors, there are three different classes that would be ideal. You can narrow down which class is perfect for you by identifying which class and its benefits align with your specific needs or reasons for taking part in Nia Dance.

If you’re suffering from an injury currently, whether it’s back pains or a sprained ankle, Nia Dance Move to Heal is a great choice. It’s design was made to provide intense healing to areas of your body that require it and is identified as an ACC recovery programme too. Movements are adapted to be softer on the body, especially in areas where you’re in pain.

Gentle Nia is a great option if you’re a beginner to dance or require something with softer movements. Depending on your level of mobility and flexibility, this would be a great class to opt for. If you or someone else you know has Parkinson’s, then Nia for Parkinson’s Freedom Dance is a wonderful class to join! Caregivers are encouraged to join too and can be a fantastic way to build closer bonds and new social ties!

All classes, whether attended online or in-person, provide you with the opportunity to meet not only a diverse range of individuals but people who may be able to relate to you through situations or circumstances in common with you.
