Summer is soon to be nearing an end, so take advantage of the warmth and radiance the sun has to offer in New Zealand. There are several ways to take advantage of the beautiful weather while it lasts. Outdoor training and fitness is a terrific method to take advantage of the ever-warmer weather. This blog will discuss an outdoor refreshing Nia Dance in Hamilton that will take place on the 22nd of February

Connect Your Energy To The Earth and Ground Yourself With Nia Dance

Nia Dance is the ideal activity to complement a day spent outside in the sun. This low-impact, very adjustable technique can be done alone, with friends, or in a group setting! Because Nia Dance is so adaptable and simple to learn, you may plan a last-minute Nia exercise in the sun or join Nia Dance classes even if you have no prior dance or Nia Dance experience!

The movement is part of what makes it so adaptive. Each movement is based on a martial, therapeutic, or dance art, such as Duncan dance, Jazz, Aikido, or Yoga, and can help you even if you don’t do it like your instructors or peers. One of the many wonderful aspects of Nia Dance is that you can do any of the 52 movements that feel right to your body and still receive the benefits while avoiding damage. In reality, the adaptability of Nia Dance considerably minimises the amount of fatigue and sweat you may encounter.

Nia Dance music paired with being outside in the sun can bring a wide range of emotional benefits as well as a boost to your day’s happiness. Nia Dance music uses binaural frequencies and specialised instruments to help you connect with your seven chakras, clear mental blockages, increase joy, and provide clarity and peace to your energy.

Now that the summer and New Year break is over, you’re likely feeling the stress pile back into your life from school, work, or just day-to-day responsibilities.

If you need something to ground yourself and keep your inner energy clear, focused, and at peace, then look no further than this blog! In today’s written piece, we’ll be discussing a stress relief dance in Hamilton, known as Nia Dance, and informing you of all the wondrous and marvelous benefits it provides, and how easily it can make you forget all about your worries and stress.

Allow Nia Dance To Melt Away The Stresses of Life

Studies have shown that specific music, social interaction and dance can significantly decrease stress. These three things alone are just a few things that Nia Dance specialises in and prioritises. The music of Nia Dance is specifically chosen based on its instruments, chords played, binaural frequencies and rhythm to provide maximum benefits to your mind and soul. Some of these benefits include mental clarity and focus, improved cognitive function and heightened sensory awareness.

The dance movements of Nia Dance are 52 in total, and each is inspired by movements within the martial, healing and other dance arts. These include yoga, aikido, jazz and Tai-Kwando to name a few. All movements are easily adaptable for each individual’s needs and movement levels, and it’s encouraged to not follow the moves exactly. Rather, let each movement be a guide and allow your body to find what flows naturally; this is how you’ll get the best benefits.

Lastly, whether you taking part in Nia Dance online with friends and family joining in or you’re participating in-person at a Dance NZ class, you’ll be sure to receive a boosted amount of social interaction. Receiving enough socialisation throughout the week will help boost your happiness, calm your energy, and provide you with laughter and new or stronger social connections.

You can attend any of the five classes available at Dance NZ online through a live stream on Zoom which captures in-person classes live.

The Nia Technique (also known as Nia Dance) is a flowing form of 52 non-impact motions that is a unique blend of martial, dance and healing arts disciplines. This dance form is extremely versatile, allowing it to meet the needs of any individual or adjust to their level of competence. The degree of exercise is not extremely strenuous or aimed to tire out your body because movements are not pushed and are conducted based on what your body feels comfortable with.

Dance NZ is one of New Zealand’s few Nia Dance organizations that offers both physical and online classes. Dance NZ, with locations in Hamilton and Raglan, offers lessons to suit each individual’s ability or needs, so you don’t have to worry about losing out on Nia Dance’s incredible health and emotional advantages!

Improving Emotional Wellbeing

Listening to your body and modifying moves to what feels natural to you are other important aspects of Nia Dance. As previously said, each action is highly adaptable to your abilities and needs. You may also add your own personality to the movements to make it feel as if you’re dancing the way your body wants you to. Being able to dance as you want and let go is an excellent method to relieve stress and open your mind to wellbeing.

Nia Dance provides you with both music and social support, which are both fantastic methods to improve your overall wellness. Nia Dance’s music was created with binaural frequencies, as well as certain instruments and chord combinations, in mind. Your mental and emotional well-being will also be bolstered by the friends you make at various Nia Dance courses and hangouts.

Positive Affirmations and Nia Dance

You may do Nia Dance with like-minded people in a good setting with a supportive, guiding instructor at Dance NZ. A social connection is always something you’ll encounter at Dance NZ, whether you wish to join a class online or in person. At-person classes are given in a variety of locations in Hamilton and Raglan. Zoom is a platform that allows students to take online classes.

Dance NZ provides five different classes, all of which have the same life-affirming effects. The sole variation between these programs is the design, with each class better suited to various talents or aims, such as pain relief or Parkinson’s symptom improvement. Nia Dance Move to Heal is a class that focuses on pain relief and gentle movement. This session’s motions were created to aid people in healing from accidents or illnesses.

Both Classic Nia and Mild Nia are suitable for dancers of all levels, however, Gentle Nia is ideal for those who have limited mobility or prefer gentle workouts. Classic Nia is seen to be more suitable for more advanced dancers. Nia for Parkinson’s Freedom Dancing is a Parkinson’s dance class open only to Parkinson’s patients and their caregivers.

Do you find yourself wondering what you can do in your day to make it not only productive but help you both physically and mentally! I would encourage you to come along to Senior Nia Dance at Dance NZ, Hamilton!

Our Nia Dance Move to Heal class is perfect for those with limited mobility which often comes with age. Located at the Waikato Sports Fishing Club, come along for a cuppa tea and expand your social circle! You never know who you may meet!

Importance Of Social Interaction

Loneliness is a prevalent problem among senior individuals, especially those who live alone. Opportunities to socialise may become more limited as one becomes older, but this does not negate the importance of social engagement for the elderly. Regular social engagement has been shown in studies to lead to happier and more fulfilled lives, which translates to greater long-term mental health for senior persons. Maintaining excellent mental and physical health requires staying socially active, whereas remaining isolated can significantly diminish a person’s quality of life.

Aside from the opportunity to live a higher quality of life, social interaction has a number of important health benefits for senior citizens, including a possible reduction in the risk of dementia and a wide range of physical issues, such as high blood pressure, arthritis, and cardiovascular activities.

Benefits Of Exercising In Your Elder Years

Prevent Disease

Studies have shown that maintaining regular physical activity can help prevent many common diseases, such as heart disease and diabetes. Exercise improves overall immune function, which is important for seniors as their immune systems are often compromised. Even light exercise, such as walking, can be a powerful tool for preventable disease management.

Improved Mental Health

Exercising has a plethora of mental health benefits. Endorphins (the “feel good” hormone) are released during exercise and work as a stress reliever, leaving you feeling pleased and satisfied. Exercise has also been related to better sleep, which is particularly essential for older persons who frequently suffer from insomnia and irregular sleep patterns.

Decreased Risk of Falls

Falls are more common among older persons, which can be terrible for their ability to maintain independence. Exercise increases strength and flexibility, which helps with balance and coordination, lowering the chance of falling. Falls take far longer for seniors to recover from, so everything that will help them avoid them in the first place is essential.

Improved Cognitive Function

Cognitive function is aided by regular physical activity and fine-tuned motor skills. Numerous studies show that physically active people have a lower risk of dementia, regardless of when they start a habit.

I hope you are all having a lovely start to your week! We have our outdoor Nia Dance class at the Raglan Growers Market, on February the 18th at 5.30 pm. It will be a fantastic evening and I hope to see you all there!

I also have a lovely spot prize to give away so keep your eyes peeled for that too!

I also just want to say a massive welcome to our new joiners to Dance NZ for our Nia Dance classes, were so pleased for you to join us.

Nia Dance Move to Heal

Have you thought about joining our Nia Dance classes but are worried about the fact you haven’t attended a dance class before? Or feel as though you may be too “old”. Our Nia Dance Move to Heal will be the perfect opportunity for you to get back into the rhythm and try something new while nourishing your body with movement and the spiritual feeling that Nia Dance has to offer.

Nia Move to Heal is an approved Waikato Strong and Stable class for older adults. The class is made of combining standing and seated dance with joyful music and movement. The classes are held at 11.15 am Tuesdays at 499 Grantham Street, Waikato Sport Fishing Centre. Pre-bookings and online bookings are welcome.

Secure your spot with a term pass! Term passes are retailed at $160 per term, or if you’re new, I would highly recommend a first-time deal, which gives you 3 classes for only $15.

Nia Dance and It’s Social Benefits

Nia Dance Classe’s at Dance NZ are the perfect way to expand your social circle. Many find as they age they not only don’t find the time to spend with others but also find their social circle shrinks. Nia Dance not only alleviates mood but provides the perfect environment to share, connect and build relationships with others who share similar interests.

Moving Your Bodies Way

The “Body’s Way” is one of Nia’s most important ideas. Due to the fact that everyone’s mobility and stability differ, students are encouraged to pay close attention to their bodies in order to develop body awareness. Students must also be able to recognise bodily experiences like pleasure and pain. I wasn’t as aware of my body as I am today before I started learning Nia. Through discipline, healthy eating habits, exercise, and rest, Nia has helped me to genuinely understand and love my body.

Here are two reasons to consider when thinking about beginning Nia Dance:

Release Negative Emotions

When your Nia teacher laughs and plays like a child, admire her and follow her lead. Arm blocks, chops, and kicks are all great ways to show off your unique strength… all while letting go of bad emotions in a humorous and enjoyable way

Stay In Your Body

Our inner ‘conversation’ naturally diminishes as we allow our bodies direct us via movements. Simply try free dancing at home without attaching yourself to your thoughts and observe how your mind ceases to wander and babble.

On the treadmill, are you tired of walking in circles? Are you tired of the constant hammering of aerobics? If the phrase “enjoyable workout” sounds like an oxymoron to you, it’s time to try NIA. The acronym NIA (pronounced NEE-ah) refers to neuromuscular integrative action, and it’s one of the newest mind-body fitness fads.

According to fans, NIA enhances both physical and emotional well-being by combining the fluidity and focus of Tai Chi and yoga, the elegance and spontaneity of modern dance, and the intensity and explosiveness of martial arts.

What Does A Nia Workout Entail?

The first step is to remove your shoes. The instructor then conducts the class in deep-breathing exercises as calm music plays, allowing students to relax while concentrating on the connection between their bare feet and the land.

Students begin to sway, shimmy, and spin as the beat picks up. Some people clap while others rock and roll. Some people burst into spontaneous singing as the freestyle dance continues. Kicks and punches in the style of Tae Kwon Do relieve stress while increasing heart rate.

Uplifting Effects of Nia Dance

Several excellent treatments programmed for patients with Parkinson’s disease and other chronic diseases have incorporated Nia exercise techniques. Exercising may be especially beneficial for those with neurologic disorders, according to a growing body of studies, with benefits in movement, balance, and even cognition. Mind-body techniques like tai chi, for example, have been shown to improve movement and reduce stress levels in patients with Parkinson’s disease (PD).

Our Parkinson’s Dance classes are subsidized to only $5 per class, with caregivers having a free entry. I encourage you all to try it out if it is something that sounds suited to your needs.

Benefits for Senior Dance

Keeping mentally sharp

According to a study published in the Journal of Cognitive Enhancement, dancing on a regular basis can assist healthy older persons to retain or improving their cognition. The brain benefits from multisensory stimulation, social contact, and learning movement sequences.

Improving strength, flexibility and agility

According to a study published in the Journal of Aging and Physical Activity, dancing is a multidimensional physical activity that helps older persons enhance their aerobic power, lower body muscle endurance, balance, agility, and gait.

Dancing away the blues

According to a Therapeutic Recreation Journal study, aerobic dance, ballroom dancing, social dancing, tango, and dance movement therapy were beneficial in boosting mood and lowering depression in older persons living in retirement communities or alone in their homes.

Ease Chronic Pain

According to a study published in the journal Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine, dance-based treatment for fibromyalgia patients resulted in a significant reduction in pain. According to Geriatric Nursing, older persons with arthritis experienced less knee and hip discomfort and were able to walk faster after participating in regular 45-minute dancing therapy lessons.

A Classic Nia class is a barefoot, sensory-based, cardio movement class set to an eclectic mix of global music. Nia inspires and educates you to move and live with embodied joy by combining the newest mind-body science with ancient wisdom. Try this grounding awareness dance in Hamilton at Dance NZ today!

Nia is designed to nurture, condition, and nourish your body and soul now and in the future by providing a connection to pleasure.

Nia emphasises fitness-dancing, mindfulness, neuroplasticity, self-healing, and, most importantly, Nia is fun. Nia is inspired by dance, martial arts, and healing arts.

Nia courses are a rich experience for the entire body, engaging everything from the bigger muscles of the body to the fingertips and toes. The practice combines Tai Chi, Aikido, Tae Kwon Do, Modern Dance, Duncan Dance, Jazz, Moshe Feldenkrais’ work, the Alexander Technique, and Yoga to give you a sensory sample of each one and a sense of its chemistry.

This one-of-a-kind combination helps you to strike a balance between the feminine and the masculine, the precise and the fluid, the forceful and the yielding. We can express and explore different elements of our physical, emotional, and spiritual selves by combining various movement forms.

These movements connect us to a variety of energies, our breathing, and our personalities, all of which work together to keep the body lively and healthy while also allowing it to move easily and enjoyably.

Importance of Grounding

Grounding, sometimes known as earthing, is a therapeutic practice in which you engage in activities that “ground” or electrically reconnect you to the earth.

Earthing science and grounding physics are used in this technique to describe how electrical charges from the earth can have beneficial impacts on your body. This sort of grounding therapy differs slightly from the technique utilised in mental health treatment.

Conditions that have been noted to be improved by grounding include:

– Chronic fatigue

– Chronic pain

– Anxiety and Depression

– Sleep disorders

– Cardiovascular Disease

Our outdoor Nia Dance classes are the PERFECT opportunity to become one with the earth and utilise what Nia Dance has to offer.

Importance of Bodily Awareness

We are more likely to recognise stress, anxiety, and tension as we become more conscious of our bodies and their sensations. The body detects stress much more quickly than the mind. The body’s way of letting you know you’re stressed is when muscles begin to stiffen.

Nia improves the health of the body, mind, and spirit. Each Nia class instils mindfulness in your dance movement, leaving you feeling invigorated, cognitively strong, and emotionally balanced. Once you have recognised any stresses you have, Nia Dance can help you get one step closer to a healthier, happier life.

Benefits between Dance and Parkinson’s

There has been a lot of interesting research between the brain, dance and slowing the progression of Parkinson’s. Dance has been used as therapy for Parkison’s for a long time. It has been shown to improve many of the struggles which are commonly paired with the disease. From balance, motor and cognitive issues, it has been seen how to dance, especially low impact dance such as Nia Dance can help ease these symptoms in some participants.

Need To Clear Your Head?

Nia Dance is an awesome way to heal yourself from the inside out. The first step to becoming the healthiest version of yourself all starts with your mental state.

You can benefit from Nia in all aspects of your life, feeling more confident and comfortable in your own body. Nia reduces anxiety and stress, bringing a sense of calm energy to your day.

Fake news. You’ve heard it, seen it, and maybe even said it. 9 times out of 10, you’re likely unaware that you have! Common topics of fake news range from politics, news stories, diet fads and, you name it, Nia Dance. This blog is to “clear the air” about common misconceptions of Nia Dance you may have encountered.

Nia Is A “Hippy Dance”

Nia is not a passing trend, nor without substance. It is not “esoteric” or “cult-like”. Nia isn’t about rainbows dancing, tree’s waving, or floating fairies. It would be a lie to say, that perhaps in some cases this is an aspect for some participants., but there is also kicking, punching, sounding, and most importantly, technique. Technique, as in the requirement for precision and accuracy.

Nia is based on the idea of combining form (choreography and technique) with freedom (the choice to customize and personalize our movement experience). The point of the class is not to float around the room free dancing the entire time. Discipline, power, technique, and purpose are all present.

Nia Doesn’t Offer A “Real Workout”

Every single Nia class challenges you to engage your entire body, including your head, fingertips, tailbone, and feet. How can using your entire body not be considered a workout! At Dance NZ, we can guarantee that by combining strength and grace, we will get your heart beating, stretching, sweating, and increasing your joint mobility. For people who are looking for a milder version of Nia Dance, we offer a Gentle Nia dance, for those with limited mobility but still want the same benefits!

Nia is the perfect workout. We acquire strength in Nia by using our own body weight. We stretch and twist our muscles along with our bones, push and pull in space, and get up and down from the ground. We circulate energy throughout our entire body, strengthening both our inner and exterior selves.

Dance NZ Cover Photo Social Class

The Nia Tecniquie is based on the science of the bodys way

Nia is founded on The Body’s Way, which entails enhancing function by utilizing the body’s natural design. Imagination, music, emotion, and voice sound are used to trigger biochemistry, joint and muscle activity. Abduction, adduction’ flexion, extension’ eversion, inversion; dorsal flexion, plantar flexion; pronation and supination are just some of the very few examples of movements that work with and against gravity. Nia focuses on conditioning the body and nervous system while addressing the body’s five main sensations: flexibility, strength, mobility, agility, and stability.

Now, covering just a few of these common misconceptions, I would like to hope that this blog may put you at ease of any doubts in which may have prevented you from participating in Nia Dance.
