Now that the summer and New Year break is over, you’re likely feeling the stress pile back into your life from school, work, or just day-to-day responsibilities.

If you need something to ground yourself and keep your inner energy clear, focused, and at peace, then look no further than this blog! In today’s written piece, we’ll be discussing a stress relief dance in Hamilton, known as Nia Dance, and informing you of all the wondrous and marvelous benefits it provides, and how easily it can make you forget all about your worries and stress.

Allow Nia Dance To Melt Away The Stresses of Life

Studies have shown that specific music, social interaction and dance can significantly decrease stress. These three things alone are just a few things that Nia Dance specialises in and prioritises. The music of Nia Dance is specifically chosen based on its instruments, chords played, binaural frequencies and rhythm to provide maximum benefits to your mind and soul. Some of these benefits include mental clarity and focus, improved cognitive function and heightened sensory awareness.

The dance movements of Nia Dance are 52 in total, and each is inspired by movements within the martial, healing and other dance arts. These include yoga, aikido, jazz and Tai-Kwando to name a few. All movements are easily adaptable for each individual’s needs and movement levels, and it’s encouraged to not follow the moves exactly. Rather, let each movement be a guide and allow your body to find what flows naturally; this is how you’ll get the best benefits.

Lastly, whether you taking part in Nia Dance online with friends and family joining in or you’re participating in-person at a Dance NZ class, you’ll be sure to receive a boosted amount of social interaction. Receiving enough socialisation throughout the week will help boost your happiness, calm your energy, and provide you with laughter and new or stronger social connections.

Focus and Mental Health

Every Nia class starts with a focus…something to be aware of, observe, and explore with while moving your body! Keeping a fixed concentration throughout your Nia class experience guarantees that you are IN your body, consciously aware, and actively guiding all of your movement choices and actions, keeping you safe and reducing the risk of injury.

How Nia Dance Can Change Your Life

Nia Dance is an amazing and extremely beneficial type of training and dance. Its one-of-a-kind design allows it to fit a wide range of body shapes and talents. It’s also a low-impact type of exercise and a form of movement art.

Nia Dance’s make-up was created in accordance with the human body’s intricate structure. This opens the door to a wide range of benefits, which can drastically improve your life.

Nia Dance moves are influenced by nine distinct martial arts, healing arts, and dance styles. Aikido, Yoga, and Tai-Chi are examples of these techniques. While these strategies aid Nia Dance’s physical impact, they also aid Nia Dance’s mental and spiritual impact.

Nia Dance is influenced not only by the physical motions of these arts but also by their vocal teachings. This is how Nia Dance is able to deliver great mental health advantages and enjoyment in your life. Nia Dance also integrates mindfulness practises, which can help you feel more relaxed after each lesson and offer emotions of peace and calmer energy.

Nia Dance’s music also helps you understand how the technique might benefit you. Nia Dance music can considerably help enhance your mood, aid in the opening of your seven chakras, help organ function and nervous system performance, as well as inspire feelings of serenity and joy, by incorporating binaural frequencies, precise chords and pitches, and properly chosen instruments.

I hope you are all having a lovely start to your week! We have our outdoor Nia Dance class at the Raglan Growers Market, on February the 18th at 5.30 pm. It will be a fantastic evening and I hope to see you all there!

I also have a lovely spot prize to give away so keep your eyes peeled for that too!

I also just want to say a massive welcome to our new joiners to Dance NZ for our Nia Dance classes, were so pleased for you to join us.

Nia Dance Move to Heal

Have you thought about joining our Nia Dance classes but are worried about the fact you haven’t attended a dance class before? Or feel as though you may be too “old”. Our Nia Dance Move to Heal will be the perfect opportunity for you to get back into the rhythm and try something new while nourishing your body with movement and the spiritual feeling that Nia Dance has to offer.

Nia Move to Heal is an approved Waikato Strong and Stable class for older adults. The class is made of combining standing and seated dance with joyful music and movement. The classes are held at 11.15 am Tuesdays at 499 Grantham Street, Waikato Sport Fishing Centre. Pre-bookings and online bookings are welcome.

Secure your spot with a term pass! Term passes are retailed at $160 per term, or if you’re new, I would highly recommend a first-time deal, which gives you 3 classes for only $15.

Nia Dance and It’s Social Benefits

Nia Dance Classe’s at Dance NZ are the perfect way to expand your social circle. Many find as they age they not only don’t find the time to spend with others but also find their social circle shrinks. Nia Dance not only alleviates mood but provides the perfect environment to share, connect and build relationships with others who share similar interests.

Moving Your Bodies Way

The “Body’s Way” is one of Nia’s most important ideas. Due to the fact that everyone’s mobility and stability differ, students are encouraged to pay close attention to their bodies in order to develop body awareness. Students must also be able to recognise bodily experiences like pleasure and pain. I wasn’t as aware of my body as I am today before I started learning Nia. Through discipline, healthy eating habits, exercise, and rest, Nia has helped me to genuinely understand and love my body.

Here are two reasons to consider when thinking about beginning Nia Dance:

Release Negative Emotions

When your Nia teacher laughs and plays like a child, admire her and follow her lead. Arm blocks, chops, and kicks are all great ways to show off your unique strength… all while letting go of bad emotions in a humorous and enjoyable way

A Classic Nia class is a barefoot, sensory-based, cardio movement class set to an eclectic mix of global music. Nia inspires and educates you to move and live with embodied joy by combining the newest mind-body science with ancient wisdom. Try this grounding awareness dance in Hamilton at Dance NZ today!

Nia is designed to nurture, condition, and nourish your body and soul now and in the future by providing a connection to pleasure.

Nia emphasises fitness-dancing, mindfulness, neuroplasticity, self-healing, and, most importantly, Nia is fun. Nia is inspired by dance, martial arts, and healing arts.

Nia courses are a rich experience for the entire body, engaging everything from the bigger muscles of the body to the fingertips and toes. The practice combines Tai Chi, Aikido, Tae Kwon Do, Modern Dance, Duncan Dance, Jazz, Moshe Feldenkrais’ work, the Alexander Technique, and Yoga to give you a sensory sample of each one and a sense of its chemistry.

This one-of-a-kind combination helps you to strike a balance between the feminine and the masculine, the precise and the fluid, the forceful and the yielding. We can express and explore different elements of our physical, emotional, and spiritual selves by combining various movement forms.

These movements connect us to a variety of energies, our breathing, and our personalities, all of which work together to keep the body lively and healthy while also allowing it to move easily and enjoyably.

Importance of Grounding

Grounding, sometimes known as earthing, is a therapeutic practice in which you engage in activities that “ground” or electrically reconnect you to the earth.

Earthing science and grounding physics are used in this technique to describe how electrical charges from the earth can have beneficial impacts on your body. This sort of grounding therapy differs slightly from the technique utilised in mental health treatment.

Conditions that have been noted to be improved by grounding include:

– Chronic fatigue

– Chronic pain

– Anxiety and Depression

– Sleep disorders

– Cardiovascular Disease

Our outdoor Nia Dance classes are the PERFECT opportunity to become one with the earth and utilise what Nia Dance has to offer.

Importance of Bodily Awareness

We are more likely to recognise stress, anxiety, and tension as we become more conscious of our bodies and their sensations. The body detects stress much more quickly than the mind. The body’s way of letting you know you’re stressed is when muscles begin to stiffen.

Nia improves the health of the body, mind, and spirit. Each Nia class instils mindfulness in your dance movement, leaving you feeling invigorated, cognitively strong, and emotionally balanced. Once you have recognised any stresses you have, Nia Dance can help you get one step closer to a healthier, happier life.

I hope you all had a lovely weekend and very excited see you all (hopefully) attend our first classes of 2022 this week! With this said, I would love to take this opportunity to introduce our new dance teacher in Hamilton and joining Belinda in leading Classic Nia at 9.30am at our Hamilton Location, 20 Wellington Street, Hamilton East.

Hilda Mali will be taking Friday morning classes. Hilda will be a fantastic addition to Dance NZ. Hilda offers a versatile dance teaching style, rooted in her passion for creative dance movement and healing arts. She weaves indigenous and western practices with healing wisdom. I encourage you all, if given the opportunity to come along to Hilda’s class and enjoy what she has to offer!

Nia Outdoors

Nia outdoors is a fantastic way to incorporate moving your body and getting some fresh air and getting some lovely sunshine onto your body! Nia Dance itself offers your body so many benefits and being outdoors offers so many more! Studies show that exposure to nature and the outdoors is linked to induce benefits such as improved attention, decline in stress levels, improved moods and can help manage or prevent psychiatric and mood disorders such as anxiety and depression. Make sure you watch out for our pop up outdoor classes which run in February and March 2022!

Beginning Nia For The First Time

Are you thinking about attending a Nia Dance class for the first time? Nervous for what to expect or just general anxieties about doing something new for the first time? Well I have arranged what I believe are 7 tips and tricks to ensure you’re not only prepared for the class, but you are making the most of your Nia Dance experience!

Firstly, relax and breathe. Hello and welcome to your new practice. Take advantage of the opportunity to learn something new. Begin with modest motions to help your body to acclimatize to Nia-style movement. Allow yourself to be supported by your breathing. When you feel ready, increase the range of motion and intensity as you learn the steps.

Secondly, be present in the moment. Nia means “purposeful movement” in Swahili. Dedicate each minute to moving with the strength, pleasure, and purpose that comes with being in your body – in the NOW. Reduce the influence of your inner critic, judge, or saboteur while increasing your sense of adventure.

Third, pay attention. Always pay attention to your body’s signals. Allow Nia to guide you towards pleasurable, “body-based” feelings from the inside out. If a move doesn’t feel correct, adjust it by going smaller, slower, or taking fewer steps. Always move away from the source of suffering. Movement is a form of treatment.

Fourth, begin with your toes. Begin by capturing the beat of the feet and legs, then gradually incorporate the core, arms, and hand gestures. To relieve your knees, keep your feet under your hips and your joints “spring-loaded.” Your body will eventually acquire Nia’s language, the language of the body, and fall in love with the dynamics incorporated into the movement.

Fifth, barefoot is the way to go. Discover how your feet’s 7000 nerve endings may help you walk safely and efficiently from the ground up. While it is recommended to be barefoot, you can wear shoes with a soft flexible sole for comfort or medical reasons. Moving barefoot strengthens your feet and improves your overall balance.

Sixth, look for the phrase “Dynamic Ease.” Never make a motion that you don’t want to happen. Avoid becoming out of breath or exhausted. Keep moving within your comfort zone. Make your moves in an energy-efficient manner.

Lastly, make a statement. This is your moment to shine. Within the exercises, express your own distinctive rhythm and body language. Jazzy, lush, poetic, quick, or seductive are all good choices. Above all, be yourself and enjoy yourself.

Book Now

Make your fitness routine sustainable by doing something fun, gentle yet powerful, and that you love. Try Nia Dance today; no matter where you are, there’s an option for you to attend and the perfect class style to suit you and your needs. Make 2022 your year with Dance NZ.

Many people don’t quite fully understand how movement is magic for your body. Exercise is medicine, even small amounts can extend longevity and prevent and treat disease. Movement is a polypill that can treat and prevent illness. Ancient thinkers, such as Hippocrates and Plato, advocated physical activity for health. The evidence for this comes from recent (and not so recent) studies that show exercise reduces the risk of all-cause mortality (all causes of death) and cardiovascular-related events, as well as warding off chronic lifestyle conditions such as type 2 diabetes, obesity, metabolic syndrome, dementia and cancer.

Almost every system of the body depends upon us moving: mental health and cognitive function, muscles and joints, hearts and lungs, hormones and moods, digestive health and gut microbiome, metabolism and blood pressure – you name it, to stay healthy, we need to move frequently and purposefully. Dance is medicine to the body.

Nia Dance and Its Cardio Importance

It sounds like an appealing way to work out, but will Nia get you in shape? Its creators certainly believe so – claiming that Nia can improve your cardiovascular fitness, strength, flexibility, and balance. While it is probably the case if you are new to exercise, Nia’s real benefits lie in its multi-directional movements, diversity, and subtle way of engaging your mind and body without you even noticing – rather than calorie expenditure. Cardiovascular activities are extremely beneficial for your health.

As well as helping to lower blood pressure, cardiovascular exercise can also lower cholesterol levels in the blood by raising the levels of “good” high-density lipoproteins (HDL) and lowering the levels of “bad” low-density lipoproteins (LDL). Cardiovascular exercise – specifically low-impact activities, such as Nia Dance – can help you regain muscle strength and endurance. Exercise can also help you lose weight, which may further relieve chronic back pain.

Nia Dance is The Best Thing You Can Do For YOUR Body

While running, swimming and other propulsion-based physical activities rely on rhythm and momentum to keep your body moving, dancing involves a lot of acceleration and deceleration, which the body is less able to do efficiently through energy expenditure. Nia Dance has many benefits other than just burning calories. Nia Dance’s up-and-down and side-to-side movements may stimulate and train many of your body’s small support muscles and tendons, just as trail jogging and trekking better use your lower-body joints and muscles than straight-ahead, level-ground locomotion.

Term Passes

Term passes are a great way to get more bang for your buck if you are regularly attending Nia Dance classes. Whether you’re attending our Classic Nia classes or Gentle Nia classes, we have a pass that is convenient to you! Included in the price is our 24-hour class replay, sent to you after the class has finished. 24-hour class replays are sent to you via a link in an email. They are not downloadable and expire after 24 hours.

Outdoor Dance

Come along to the Big Dance at Steele Park in Hamilton! It is a fun, outdoor’s Nia Dance class which is suitable for everybody! I hope to see you there.

Are you a seasoned dancer who is looking to experience and learn a completely new, unique style of dance? If you’re a dance or fitness lover and have something about trying something new on your 2022 resolutions, then this expert and unique stylised dance in Hamilton will be excellent for you. Whether you have dance experience or not, as long as you have confidence in your moves and a passion for fun, you’ll love Nia Dance!

Nia Dance Is More Than Just a Dance Technique

Nia Dance is a technique that mixes martial arts, healing arts, and dance arts, making it, unlike any other dance fitness form you’ve experienced before. The movements of the Nia Technique are adapted to follow along closely with the design of the human body, such as the muscles, nerves and organs. Because of this, each of the 52 total Nia movements results in being very efficient in targeting your body with specific health benefits and can give you more advantages with fewer risks than high-intensity or more complex workouts.

Nia Dance is modifiable and non-impact which means it’s easy to meet each individual’s requirements or abilities, unlike other dance forms and classes. Nia Dance is all about listening to your body and recognising which moves feel correct and which don’t. It’s a very easily modifiable movement practice that, unlike other dance forms, doesn’t leave you feeling fatigued, hurting, or sweaty after a workout.

Nia Dance equips you with a wide range of life advantages, as well as providing you with skills and tools to help you better your lifestyle and mentality outside of class. If you’re looking for a pick-me-up for 2022 to get you on the right track for health, look no further. Improved circulation, reduced anxiety and depressive symptoms, increased muscle gain and toning, improved cardiovascular and immune systems, improved posture, improved organ and cognitive functioning, supported balance and coordination, are just a few of the advantages of Nia Dance.

Dance NZ Providing The Perfect Class For You

Dance NZ, a Nia Dance group headquartered in Hamilton and Raglan, leads the ideal Nia Dance classes for experienced dancers, known as Classic Nia. Classic Nia has been specially stylised to have more complex movements to bring a sense of challenge, fun and a higher rate of activity for the mind and body. Although the motions in this class can be easily adapted, they do need a greater level of mobility and flexibility. Classic Nia is available two days a week as it is the most popular and well-rounded class, and takes place at Saint John’s Hall and the Waikato Sports and Fishing Club.

Nia Dance Inspiring Fitness at All Levels

A worldwide-known fitness and dance sensation, Nia Dance is a holistic movement art that is able to cater to every individual and their needs. Whether you’re an athlete with high mobility, a student who wants to get in shape, or a stay-at-home mum who needs a new activity to wind down, Nia Dance can meet any expectations you have and help you reach any fitness goal you set!

Nia Dance incorporates a range of tools within its dance environment and movements in order to be so accessible to everyone and be able to provide a vast range of benefits to meet your health and fitness goals. Using specially designed music, carefully picked environments, and uniquely crafted movements, Nia Dance is unlike any other fitness or dance.

The movements of Nia Dance were made to be easily adaptable and non-impact, and are not required to be performed exactly as your instructor does. On top of this, you’re encouraged to perform the way your body wants you to, even adding your own personal style to the dance. This means you can perform at a moderate level and still receive the joyous benefits Nia Dance has to offer.

The Nia Dance music helps push and motivate you during your workout, and provides feelings of encouragement and positivity. Binaural frequencies and specifically chosen instruments are essential to what makes the music so effective, also helping your organ and cognitive function, and focus.

Dance NZ and Classic Nia Classes For Everybody to Enjoy

Dance NZ provides five amazing classes, each differing from one another in terms of motions and design but still giving you all the benefits of Nia Dance. For moderate dance and fitness, Classic Nia is the most suitable class. This class is perfect for experienced dancers but also ideal for anybody looking for a medium-level dance routine to participate in, no matter your specific abilities.

Your Dance NZ instructor, Belinda Goodwin, guides you through her HYBRID-style courses on Zoom so you can participate from the comfort of your own home and in-person classes at various Hamilton and Raglan locations. Class replays are also available for purchase on the Dance NZ website and can be viewed for 24 hours, as many times as you like, after buying.

Both choices, online classes, and class replays are ideal for those who like working out alone and in their own space, don’t have enough time in their schedule to attend in person, or are unable to leave the house due to injury or illness, lack of transportation, or other reasons. In-person classes are great to get a deeper level of social connection and practice Nia Dance in a new environment.

Nia Dance doesn’t require any specific equipment, such as resistance bands, weights, or even shoes, so you can work out anytime and anyplace whether that’s outside in the afternoon or the evening in your house. This makes it easy to plan Nia workouts whenever you like, for however long you like.

Summer is coming and even though it’s still spring, the warmth and shine of the sun are already here in New Zealand. Taking advantage of this wonderful weather while it’s around can be done in a variety of ways. A fantastic way to make the most of the ever-warmer weather is through outdoor exercise and fitness. This blog will be talking about an outdoor dance in Raglan and Hamilton that’s available on the 9th of November.

Add Nia Dance to Your Bright and Sunny Day

Nia Dance is the perfect activity to add to your day outside in the sun. You can perform this non-impact and highly adaptable technique alone, with friends, or in a guided class! The ability to be so flexible and easy to learn allows you to organise a last-minute Nia workout in the sun or join Nia Dance classes with no previous dance or Nia Dance experience!

Part of what makes it so adaptable is the movement itself. Each movement is inspired by a martial, healing or dance art, such as Duncan dance, Jazz, Aikido or Yoga, and can provide benefits even when not performed like your instructors or peers. This is one of the many great things about Nia Dance, you can perform any of the 52 movements based on what feels right to your body and still reap the benefits and not be at risk of injury. In fact, Nia Dance adaptability significantly reduces the level of fatigue and sweat you might experience too.

The music of Nia Dance combined with being outdoors in the sun is a great combo that can provide a large variety of emotional benefits and boost happiness to your day. Through binaural frequencies and specific instruments, Nia Dance music can help you get in touch with your seven chakras, remove mental blockages, promote joy, and bring a sense of clarity and calmness to your energy.
