A Classic Nia class is a barefoot, sensory-based, cardio movement class set to an eclectic mix of global music. Nia inspires and educates you to move and live with embodied joy by combining the newest mind-body science with ancient wisdom. Try this grounding awareness dance in Hamilton at Dance NZ today!

Nia is designed to nurture, condition, and nourish your body and soul now and in the future by providing a connection to pleasure.

Nia emphasises fitness-dancing, mindfulness, neuroplasticity, self-healing, and, most importantly, Nia is fun. Nia is inspired by dance, martial arts, and healing arts.

Nia courses are a rich experience for the entire body, engaging everything from the bigger muscles of the body to the fingertips and toes. The practice combines Tai Chi, Aikido, Tae Kwon Do, Modern Dance, Duncan Dance, Jazz, Moshe Feldenkrais’ work, the Alexander Technique, and Yoga to give you a sensory sample of each one and a sense of its chemistry.

This one-of-a-kind combination helps you to strike a balance between the feminine and the masculine, the precise and the fluid, the forceful and the yielding. We can express and explore different elements of our physical, emotional, and spiritual selves by combining various movement forms.

These movements connect us to a variety of energies, our breathing, and our personalities, all of which work together to keep the body lively and healthy while also allowing it to move easily and enjoyably.

Importance of Grounding

Grounding, sometimes known as earthing, is a therapeutic practice in which you engage in activities that “ground” or electrically reconnect you to the earth.

Earthing science and grounding physics are used in this technique to describe how electrical charges from the earth can have beneficial impacts on your body. This sort of grounding therapy differs slightly from the technique utilised in mental health treatment.

Conditions that have been noted to be improved by grounding include:

– Chronic fatigue

– Chronic pain

– Anxiety and Depression

– Sleep disorders

– Cardiovascular Disease

Our outdoor Nia Dance classes are the PERFECT opportunity to become one with the earth and utilise what Nia Dance has to offer.

Importance of Bodily Awareness

We are more likely to recognise stress, anxiety, and tension as we become more conscious of our bodies and their sensations. The body detects stress much more quickly than the mind. The body’s way of letting you know you’re stressed is when muscles begin to stiffen.

Nia improves the health of the body, mind, and spirit. Each Nia class instils mindfulness in your dance movement, leaving you feeling invigorated, cognitively strong, and emotionally balanced. Once you have recognised any stresses you have, Nia Dance can help you get one step closer to a healthier, happier life.

Benefits between Dance and Parkinson’s

There has been a lot of interesting research between the brain, dance and slowing the progression of Parkinson’s. Dance has been used as therapy for Parkison’s for a long time. It has been shown to improve many of the struggles which are commonly paired with the disease. From balance, motor and cognitive issues, it has been seen how to dance, especially low impact dance such as Nia Dance can help ease these symptoms in some participants.

Need To Clear Your Head?

Nia Dance is an awesome way to heal yourself from the inside out. The first step to becoming the healthiest version of yourself all starts with your mental state.

You can benefit from Nia in all aspects of your life, feeling more confident and comfortable in your own body. Nia reduces anxiety and stress, bringing a sense of calm energy to your day.

Weight loss increased strength, and pain relief is common. Nia relieves depression and helps you regain your sense of joy. It awakens your sexuality and improves your health and circulation. It has helped many people cope with loss and grief, and to develop friendships, assertiveness, and self-esteem.

Nia is a fusion of dance, mindfulness, and martial arts that is a powerful synergistic workout designed to improve your well-being and overall health. Nia can treat injuries and illnesses, reduce depression, anxiety, and stress, improve mobility, increase strength and flexibility, as well as be a relaxing and gentle workout.

There are many reasons to get involved in a fitness activity like a dance. People feel compelled to get involved due to exercise or health reasons, or just because they enjoy the activity. A great reason to get involved with something like dance is the social side of the exercise. Meeting new people, expanding your social circle and increasing your levels of socialisation have been shown to boost memory, happiness and other cognitive functions. Today’s blog will be talking about social dance classes in Hamilton that will leave you feeling socially refreshed and happier within your mind, body and soul.

The Social Side of Nia Dance

If you read our blogs often, you’ll know all the amazing benefits of Nia Dance and what makes it so effective. You can access these blogs and read them here. There are blogs covering Nia Dance’s mental, physical and spiritual effects, as well classes for beginners, seniors, experienced dancers and those with Parkinson’s.

Briefly, Nia Dance is a holistic movement art known worldwide. Taking inspiration and adapting movements from nine different techniques, such as tae-kwon-do, jazz, and yoga, Nia Dance has been developed to be non-impact, highly adaptable, and diverse with its benefits.

Nia Dance can be performed alone or in groups, sitting down or standing up, for a few minutes or an hour, and still provide just as many benefits and fun! The social side of Nia Dance will help bring more confidence and self-esteem, reduce blood pressure, improve brain health and function, boosts your mental health, furthers your purpose and quality of life, and reduce your risk of Alzheimer’s.

Enjoy The Beauty Of Nia Dance With Others at Dance NZ

If you’re based in New Zealand, it can be difficult to find a Nia Dance company, especially one that has classes that fit your specific needs, and abilities and is provided in the perfect venue and location. Based in the Waikato region, Dance NZ is a Nia Dance organisation that provides in-person classes at different locations in Hamilton and Raglan, and online HYBRID-style sessions through Zoom. Online classes are perfect to attend if you’re too far away to make physical classes or prefer working out alone or at home. However, if you’re located in Hamilton or Raglan, take advantage of in-person sessions to boost your social levels and meet new people from all walks of life.

There are many classes available for you to choose from, each one with its own special design and advantages. The class that most suits you will also help connect you to those similar to you or those with similar experiences which can be extremely beneficial. Friends or people who can relate to you are a great support and easier to build the first foundation of friendship with.

The classes available at Dance NZ vary: Gentle Nia is recommended for beginners or those needing less or softer movement. Classic Nia is recommended for those with dance experience but is also an all-rounder class. Nia Dance Move to Heal is similar to an injury rehabilitation program and is certified by ACC and the Waikato Strength and Balance organisation. Nia for Parkinson’s Freedom Dance also holds certification from the Waikato Strength and Balance organisation and is only open for participation to those with Parkinson’s and their carers.

One of the lovely things about Dance NZ that sets them apart from any other fitness group or dance program is that your instructor, Belinda Goodwin, plans activities outside of classes for everyone to get together and have fun. Likely, you’ll only see your peers once a week at Nia Dance classes so these planned outings help everyone bond quicker and provide a nice change of scenery, such as lunch out at a cafe. Even within classes, if you show up early, you can enjoy time with everyone before the session starts, such as with a cup of tea at the Waikato Sports and Fishing Club venue.

Book Now

It can be hard to find the right environment to meet people and make new friends. Dance NZ provides the perfect group setting to be able to meet new individuals, while Nia Dance provides the perfect, fun bonding experience to build newfound relationships or even strengthen old ones! So, get booking for your favorite Nia Dance class before the class is over for the week or before it’s booked out!

Not sure if Nia Dance is what you’re looking for? No stress! Try out $5 classes for up to 3 classes of your choice if you’re a first-time Dance NZ member. Check out this offer here.

Socialising can sometimes be challenging. Whether you’re online or in-person, it can be difficult finding the opportunities to meet new people, hold conversations, or strengthen relationships. This blog will be discussing how to socialise with dance in Hamilton.

Dance is an excellent activity that makes socialising easy and fun. Dancing with others has been shown to help with making friends, improving communication and social skills, and enhance your sense of cooperation and trust. The dance technique we’ll be covering today is unique in the benefits it provides and the movements it offers.

The Social Side of Nia Dance

This special dance style is known as Nia Dance or the Nia Technique. Nia Dance is unlike any other dance form you may have encountered before. 52 movements make up Nia Dance, all of which are extremely adaptable and non-impact. Each movement is inspired by one of nine different movement arts, originating from martial, healing and dance arts. Some of these movement arts include Tae Kwon Do, Aikido, Yoga, and Jazz.

The diverse blend of Nia Dance allows it to be practicable by all individual’s, whether you’re a student, stay-at-home mum, or an elder. Its easy participation allows you the opportunity to meet a diverse range of individuals. Some of whom you might have never gotten the chance to exchange conversation with. Nia dance is also not only great for meeting new, exciting people, but for strengthening existing bonds. Simple movements make it a fantastic activity for friends and family members to join in with you too.

Some of the many benefits that can come from Nia Dance include higher self-confidence, improved posture, enhanced coordination and balance, deeper spiritual connection, calm and relaxed energy, boosted moods and productivity, weight loss, muscle toning, strengthened muscles, and increased flexibility and mobility.

Create Opportunities for Socialising at Dance NZ

One of the few Nia Dance companies available in New Zealand, and is home to a fabulous array of classes, is known as Dance NZ. Dance NZ has in-person classes based in various Hamilton and Raglan region venues. They also have online classes available through Zoom. There are a total of five classes open to individuals, each with its own unique design and benefits.

Nia Dance Move to Heal is a class that emphasises gentle movement and pain relief in particular body areas. The movements in this session were designed to help individuals recovering from accidents or illnesses. Classic Nia and Gentle Nia are both suited for dancers of all abilities, however, Gentle Nia is recommended for individuals with restricted mobility or who prefer gentle exercises.

Classic Nia is said to be better suited to more experienced dancers. Nia for Parkinson’s Freedom Dance is a Parkinson’s dance class that is only open to those who have Parkinson’s disease and their caregivers. In-person classes allow more opportunities for socialisation with new individuals and offer a deeper connection. Also, online classes can engage with socialising, especially if you’re participating with someone at home too.

Dance NZ is also unique in that it offers a deep caring, social group environment not just within classes but outside of them too. There are always numerous organised events to get together with your peers and your teachers, whether it’s out for a nice lunch or Nia to hang out at the local park.

Dance classes and groups are some of the most effective methods to not only meet new people but to create easier, new social relationships. This blog will discuss a fun social dancing company in Hamilton, Raglan and online. It provides the ideal setting for meeting new people, as well as strengthening existing connections, such as with friends or family.

Making new social connections and expanding your social circles can be incredibly tough. As you get older, finding new friends can become harder as you run out of new places to meet people. The odds of meeting new people also become limited when your weekly routine and schedule lack forms of socialisation outside of your work, current companions, or family environment.

The Fun and Beauty of Nia Dance

Nia Dance is a holistic movement style that is non-impact and highly adaptable, making it easy to participate in by anybody! Because of its diverse design, Nia Dance can cater to people of different ages, genders, and degrees of mobility and ability. Whether you’re a stay-at-home mum or a student, Nia Dance is a one-of-a-kind style of dance that everyone can try. This opens the opportunity to meet a broader, more diverse spectrum of people.

Since Nia Dance is adaptable, it can be a gentle type of movement on the body that doesn’t leave you sore or tired. So if your goals are to try something new and meet new people rather than to engage in demanding activity that exhausts you, Nia Dance is ideal. With Nia Dance, it’s simple to grin and have a good time with your peers, friends, and teacher.

As mentioned earlier, Nia Dance is a non-impact, free-flowing form of dance. It aims to help you become in-tune with your body and listen to what movements feel right. This leaves you with numerous physical, mental, and spiritual health and lifestyle benefits too.

Come Out of Your Cocoon as a Social Butterfly at Dance NZ

Dance NZ offers a variety of classes that allow for excellent socialisation. This is because each class has been uniquely designed to target specific individual needs and abilities. For example, if you’re recovering from an injury or illness and haven’t been able to make social connections because of your injury, Dance NZ offers Nia Dance Move to Heal, an ACC Recovery class designed for those with injuries and limited mobility, so you can start being social again while meeting people in similar situations.

Gentle Nia is ideal for total beginners or those with restricted mobility. This class allows you to meet people with similar abilities. It also helps develop similar social relationships that can lead to Nia Dance practise outside of class too. Nia for Parkinson’s Freedom Dance is a class open only to people with Parkinson’s disease and their caregivers. This makes it an excellent social interaction group for individuals going through the same experiences.

Classic Nia is best for experienced dancers and those who are confident in their skills. It’s also perfect for those who have higher levels of mobility and flexibility. So, no matter where you are in life, Dance NZ offers a class that is suitable for you and in the ideal atmosphere for you to socialise. Dance NZ also conducts get-togethers outside of lessons on occasion. So, you can find opportunities to socialise with your new peers outside of classes.
