I hope you are all having a lovely start to your week! We have our outdoor Nia Dance class at the Raglan Growers Market, on February the 18th at 5.30 pm. It will be a fantastic evening and I hope to see you all there!

I also have a lovely spot prize to give away so keep your eyes peeled for that too!

I also just want to say a massive welcome to our new joiners to Dance NZ for our Nia Dance classes, were so pleased for you to join us.

Nia Dance Move to Heal

Have you thought about joining our Nia Dance classes but are worried about the fact you haven’t attended a dance class before? Or feel as though you may be too “old”. Our Nia Dance Move to Heal will be the perfect opportunity for you to get back into the rhythm and try something new while nourishing your body with movement and the spiritual feeling that Nia Dance has to offer.

Nia Move to Heal is an approved Waikato Strong and Stable class for older adults. The class is made of combining standing and seated dance with joyful music and movement. The classes are held at 11.15 am Tuesdays at 499 Grantham Street, Waikato Sport Fishing Centre. Pre-bookings and online bookings are welcome.

Secure your spot with a term pass! Term passes are retailed at $160 per term, or if you’re new, I would highly recommend a first-time deal, which gives you 3 classes for only $15.

Nia Dance and It’s Social Benefits

Nia Dance Classe’s at Dance NZ are the perfect way to expand your social circle. Many find as they age they not only don’t find the time to spend with others but also find their social circle shrinks. Nia Dance not only alleviates mood but provides the perfect environment to share, connect and build relationships with others who share similar interests.

Moving Your Bodies Way

The “Body’s Way” is one of Nia’s most important ideas. Due to the fact that everyone’s mobility and stability differ, students are encouraged to pay close attention to their bodies in order to develop body awareness. Students must also be able to recognise bodily experiences like pleasure and pain. I wasn’t as aware of my body as I am today before I started learning Nia. Through discipline, healthy eating habits, exercise, and rest, Nia has helped me to genuinely understand and love my body.

Here are two reasons to consider when thinking about beginning Nia Dance:

Release Negative Emotions

When your Nia teacher laughs and plays like a child, admire her and follow her lead. Arm blocks, chops, and kicks are all great ways to show off your unique strength… all while letting go of bad emotions in a humorous and enjoyable way

Stay In Your Body

Our inner ‘conversation’ naturally diminishes as we allow our bodies direct us via movements. Simply try free dancing at home without attaching yourself to your thoughts and observe how your mind ceases to wander and babble.

Book Now

Try something new and add a thrill to your regular dance routine with Nia Dance! Expand your current experiences with the unique technique of Nia at Dance NZ. Are you a new Dance NZ member? Click here to get access to a special offer of 3 classes for only $15!

Do you have a query? CONTACT Dance NZ here to reach out with your question and we’ll get back to you right away.

Many people don’t quite fully understand how movement is magic for your body. Exercise is medicine, even small amounts can extend longevity and prevent and treat disease. Movement is a polypill that can treat and prevent illness. Ancient thinkers, such as Hippocrates and Plato, advocated physical activity for health. The evidence for this comes from recent (and not so recent) studies that show exercise reduces the risk of all-cause mortality (all causes of death) and cardiovascular-related events, as well as warding off chronic lifestyle conditions such as type 2 diabetes, obesity, metabolic syndrome, dementia and cancer.

Almost every system of the body depends upon us moving: mental health and cognitive function, muscles and joints, hearts and lungs, hormones and moods, digestive health and gut microbiome, metabolism and blood pressure – you name it, to stay healthy, we need to move frequently and purposefully. Dance is medicine to the body.

Nia Dance and Its Cardio Importance

It sounds like an appealing way to work out, but will Nia get you in shape? Its creators certainly believe so – claiming that Nia can improve your cardiovascular fitness, strength, flexibility, and balance. While it is probably the case if you are new to exercise, Nia’s real benefits lie in its multi-directional movements, diversity, and subtle way of engaging your mind and body without you even noticing – rather than calorie expenditure. Cardiovascular activities are extremely beneficial for your health.

As well as helping to lower blood pressure, cardiovascular exercise can also lower cholesterol levels in the blood by raising the levels of “good” high-density lipoproteins (HDL) and lowering the levels of “bad” low-density lipoproteins (LDL). Cardiovascular exercise – specifically low-impact activities, such as Nia Dance – can help you regain muscle strength and endurance. Exercise can also help you lose weight, which may further relieve chronic back pain.

Nia Dance is The Best Thing You Can Do For YOUR Body

While running, swimming and other propulsion-based physical activities rely on rhythm and momentum to keep your body moving, dancing involves a lot of acceleration and deceleration, which the body is less able to do efficiently through energy expenditure. Nia Dance has many benefits other than just burning calories. Nia Dance’s up-and-down and side-to-side movements may stimulate and train many of your body’s small support muscles and tendons, just as trail jogging and trekking better use your lower-body joints and muscles than straight-ahead, level-ground locomotion.

Term Passes

Term passes are a great way to get more bang for your buck if you are regularly attending Nia Dance classes. Whether you’re attending our Classic Nia classes or Gentle Nia classes, we have a pass that is convenient to you! Included in the price is our 24-hour class replay, sent to you after the class has finished. 24-hour class replays are sent to you via a link in an email. They are not downloadable and expire after 24 hours.

Outdoor Dance

Come along to the Big Dance at Steele Park in Hamilton! It is a fun, outdoor’s Nia Dance class which is suitable for everybody! I hope to see you there.
