Now that the summer and New Year break is over, you’re likely feeling the stress pile back into your life from school, work, or just day-to-day responsibilities.

If you need something to ground yourself and keep your inner energy clear, focused, and at peace, then look no further than this blog! In today’s written piece, we’ll be discussing a stress relief dance in Hamilton, known as Nia Dance, and informing you of all the wondrous and marvelous benefits it provides, and how easily it can make you forget all about your worries and stress.

Allow Nia Dance To Melt Away The Stresses of Life

Studies have shown that specific music, social interaction and dance can significantly decrease stress. These three things alone are just a few things that Nia Dance specialises in and prioritises. The music of Nia Dance is specifically chosen based on its instruments, chords played, binaural frequencies and rhythm to provide maximum benefits to your mind and soul. Some of these benefits include mental clarity and focus, improved cognitive function and heightened sensory awareness.

The dance movements of Nia Dance are 52 in total, and each is inspired by movements within the martial, healing and other dance arts. These include yoga, aikido, jazz and Tai-Kwando to name a few. All movements are easily adaptable for each individual’s needs and movement levels, and it’s encouraged to not follow the moves exactly. Rather, let each movement be a guide and allow your body to find what flows naturally; this is how you’ll get the best benefits.

Lastly, whether you taking part in Nia Dance online with friends and family joining in or you’re participating in-person at a Dance NZ class, you’ll be sure to receive a boosted amount of social interaction. Receiving enough socialisation throughout the week will help boost your happiness, calm your energy, and provide you with laughter and new or stronger social connections.

Do you find yourself wondering what you can do in your day to make it not only productive but help you both physically and mentally! I would encourage you to come along to Senior Nia Dance at Dance NZ, Hamilton!

Our Nia Dance Move to Heal class is perfect for those with limited mobility which often comes with age. Located at the Waikato Sports Fishing Club, come along for a cuppa tea and expand your social circle! You never know who you may meet!

Importance Of Social Interaction

Loneliness is a prevalent problem among senior individuals, especially those who live alone. Opportunities to socialise may become more limited as one becomes older, but this does not negate the importance of social engagement for the elderly. Regular social engagement has been shown in studies to lead to happier and more fulfilled lives, which translates to greater long-term mental health for senior persons. Maintaining excellent mental and physical health requires staying socially active, whereas remaining isolated can significantly diminish a person’s quality of life.

Aside from the opportunity to live a higher quality of life, social interaction has a number of important health benefits for senior citizens, including a possible reduction in the risk of dementia and a wide range of physical issues, such as high blood pressure, arthritis, and cardiovascular activities.

Benefits Of Exercising In Your Elder Years

Prevent Disease

Studies have shown that maintaining regular physical activity can help prevent many common diseases, such as heart disease and diabetes. Exercise improves overall immune function, which is important for seniors as their immune systems are often compromised. Even light exercise, such as walking, can be a powerful tool for preventable disease management.

Improved Mental Health

Exercising has a plethora of mental health benefits. Endorphins (the “feel good” hormone) are released during exercise and work as a stress reliever, leaving you feeling pleased and satisfied. Exercise has also been related to better sleep, which is particularly essential for older persons who frequently suffer from insomnia and irregular sleep patterns.

Decreased Risk of Falls

Falls are more common among older persons, which can be terrible for their ability to maintain independence. Exercise increases strength and flexibility, which helps with balance and coordination, lowering the chance of falling. Falls take far longer for seniors to recover from, so everything that will help them avoid them in the first place is essential.

Improved Cognitive Function

Cognitive function is aided by regular physical activity and fine-tuned motor skills. Numerous studies show that physically active people have a lower risk of dementia, regardless of when they start a habit.

I hope you are all having a lovely start to your week! We have our outdoor Nia Dance class at the Raglan Growers Market, on February the 18th at 5.30 pm. It will be a fantastic evening and I hope to see you all there!

I also have a lovely spot prize to give away so keep your eyes peeled for that too!

I also just want to say a massive welcome to our new joiners to Dance NZ for our Nia Dance classes, were so pleased for you to join us.

Nia Dance Move to Heal

Have you thought about joining our Nia Dance classes but are worried about the fact you haven’t attended a dance class before? Or feel as though you may be too “old”. Our Nia Dance Move to Heal will be the perfect opportunity for you to get back into the rhythm and try something new while nourishing your body with movement and the spiritual feeling that Nia Dance has to offer.

Nia Move to Heal is an approved Waikato Strong and Stable class for older adults. The class is made of combining standing and seated dance with joyful music and movement. The classes are held at 11.15 am Tuesdays at 499 Grantham Street, Waikato Sport Fishing Centre. Pre-bookings and online bookings are welcome.

Secure your spot with a term pass! Term passes are retailed at $160 per term, or if you’re new, I would highly recommend a first-time deal, which gives you 3 classes for only $15.

Nia Dance and It’s Social Benefits

Nia Dance Classe’s at Dance NZ are the perfect way to expand your social circle. Many find as they age they not only don’t find the time to spend with others but also find their social circle shrinks. Nia Dance not only alleviates mood but provides the perfect environment to share, connect and build relationships with others who share similar interests.

Moving Your Bodies Way

The “Body’s Way” is one of Nia’s most important ideas. Due to the fact that everyone’s mobility and stability differ, students are encouraged to pay close attention to their bodies in order to develop body awareness. Students must also be able to recognise bodily experiences like pleasure and pain. I wasn’t as aware of my body as I am today before I started learning Nia. Through discipline, healthy eating habits, exercise, and rest, Nia has helped me to genuinely understand and love my body.

Here are two reasons to consider when thinking about beginning Nia Dance:

Release Negative Emotions

When your Nia teacher laughs and plays like a child, admire her and follow her lead. Arm blocks, chops, and kicks are all great ways to show off your unique strength… all while letting go of bad emotions in a humorous and enjoyable way

On the treadmill, are you tired of walking in circles? Are you tired of the constant hammering of aerobics? If the phrase “enjoyable workout” sounds like an oxymoron to you, it’s time to try NIA. The acronym NIA (pronounced NEE-ah) refers to neuromuscular integrative action, and it’s one of the newest mind-body fitness fads.

According to fans, NIA enhances both physical and emotional well-being by combining the fluidity and focus of Tai Chi and yoga, the elegance and spontaneity of modern dance, and the intensity and explosiveness of martial arts.

What Does A Nia Workout Entail?

The first step is to remove your shoes. The instructor then conducts the class in deep-breathing exercises as calm music plays, allowing students to relax while concentrating on the connection between their bare feet and the land.

Students begin to sway, shimmy, and spin as the beat picks up. Some people clap while others rock and roll. Some people burst into spontaneous singing as the freestyle dance continues. Kicks and punches in the style of Tae Kwon Do relieve stress while increasing heart rate.

Uplifting Effects of Nia Dance

Several excellent treatments programmed for patients with Parkinson’s disease and other chronic diseases have incorporated Nia exercise techniques. Exercising may be especially beneficial for those with neurologic disorders, according to a growing body of studies, with benefits in movement, balance, and even cognition. Mind-body techniques like tai chi, for example, have been shown to improve movement and reduce stress levels in patients with Parkinson’s disease (PD).

Our Parkinson’s Dance classes are subsidized to only $5 per class, with caregivers having a free entry. I encourage you all to try it out if it is something that sounds suited to your needs.

Benefits for Senior Dance

Keeping mentally sharp

According to a study published in the Journal of Cognitive Enhancement, dancing on a regular basis can assist healthy older persons to retain or improving their cognition. The brain benefits from multisensory stimulation, social contact, and learning movement sequences.

Improving strength, flexibility and agility

According to a study published in the Journal of Aging and Physical Activity, dancing is a multidimensional physical activity that helps older persons enhance their aerobic power, lower body muscle endurance, balance, agility, and gait.

Dancing away the blues

According to a Therapeutic Recreation Journal study, aerobic dance, ballroom dancing, social dancing, tango, and dance movement therapy were beneficial in boosting mood and lowering depression in older persons living in retirement communities or alone in their homes.

Ease Chronic Pain

According to a study published in the journal Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine, dance-based treatment for fibromyalgia patients resulted in a significant reduction in pain. According to Geriatric Nursing, older persons with arthritis experienced less knee and hip discomfort and were able to walk faster after participating in regular 45-minute dancing therapy lessons.

Found yourself feeling tense and overwhelmed? What better way to unwind and re-collaborate yourself with some Gentle Nia Dance in Raglan or online. Nia “Neuromuscular Integrative Action” or “non-impact aerobics” but, its best representation of the dance is from its Swahili derived meaning “with purpose”.

Nia Dance is all about giving purpose to its movement. Nia combines elements of yoga, martial arts and tai chi with dance and yoga movements, and, like aerobics, is set to music. In a single class, the music genre may vary, making it a certainly eclectic exercise.

What Can I Gain From Gentle Nia?

There are many benefits in which you can gain through the movement of Nia Dance. Moving is more than just exercise and doesn’t require an effort but does require action. Movement affects every aspect of our health, including circulation, digestion, metabolism, and immunity. We roll over, crawl and bounce as babies, gaining muscle in our bodies as we move. As children, we run, shake and dance. But as adults, we sit for hours a day and don’t necessarily get as much movement as we used to.

Additionally, in Nia classes, the cardio movement enhances our heart’s fitness and its ability to supply oxygen-rich blood to the muscles. By releasing feel-good chemicals called endorphins, cardio exercise also boosts and alleviates one’s mood, benefitting you. Experts believe those who live with elevated moods, tend to live a happier life and while mood affects both the brain and heart functions, it can positively impact your health.

EveryBODY benefits from greater activity in their routine, and movement also aid in any healing processes you may need, whether you realize it or not. Through the use of Nia, it has allowed me to tap into my full potential in order to live a healthy and meaningful life. Nia helps me to pay attention to my body’s, mind’s, spirits’ and emotions’ requirements. Nia is a holistic fitness practice that addresses all elements of my life – body, mind and soul. It is more than just a workout.

Wanting to start your 2022 off right but not sure where to begin? Some of the most popular New Years resolutions include bettering health, trying something new, and getting involved in fitness. With this peaceful, gentle dance in Raglan, you can achieve all three of these resolutions with a sustainable routine. Read onwards to discover more about Nia Dance, where you can practice this technique, exciting New Years deals and offers, and the perfect class for you.

Dance and Fitness In A Way You’ve Never Experienced Before

When it comes to fitness-based New Years resolutions, it can be very difficult to maintain this routine for many people. Some of the largest reasons for not being able to sustain this lifestyle throughout the year are due to setting intense and unrealistic goals (i.e. losing 20 kgs in one month) and doing non-enjoyable fitness.

To have sustainable fitness goals, you have to enjoy what you’re doing. If you don’t enjoy going to the gym, you’re likely not going to stick out a year of attending but if you find what you like, such as yoga or dance, you can maintain a healthy lifestyle for a longer period because you’re having fun.

Nia Dance is a dance form that adapts movements and teachings from popular fitness styles, such as yoga, tai-chi and tae-kwon-do. Nia stands for Non-Impact Aerobics, meaning each of the 52 movements are easily adaptable for your body or restrictions (i.e. low mobility, injury, etc). And, no matter how you adapt the movements, you can still receive 100% of the health benefits that come along with Nia Dance. When it comes to setting goals within fitness, it’s important that your main aim is to be healthy. If you’re aiming for overall better bodily and mental health, then you’ll find yourself enjoying the process of your fitness/health journey.

Nia Dance provides benefits for the mind, body and soul, for all ages, genders, activity levels and body types. Some of these amazing benefits include higher quality organ function, increased cognition, better hand-eye coordination and balance, higher positive energy and happiness, lowered stress and depressive levels, stronger self-connection and spiritual bond, and much more!

Dance NZ Providing Gentle Exercise To Boost Your 2022 Energy

If your New Year’s resolution is to get involved in fitness, you’re likely going to be looking for something on the gentler side as to not overwork your body. Or if you’re wanting to give something new a go this year, you’ll probably want to start with a beginner-type class, even if you’re an experienced dancer or fitness-goer. Gentle Nia at Dance NZ will be the ideal class for you if you want to be healthy using a sustainable fitness routine while having fun!

Are you a senior looking for an activity to add some extra joy to your life? It can be hard finding the right activity to participate in that is suited to your needs, is enjoyable, and provides benefits and joy to your day-to-day life. This blog will be talking about a seniors happiness dance in Hamilton that will fill you joy, and is easy and fun to take part in.

Join A Happy Senior Exercise With Nia Dance

What exactly is this amazing dance? Nia Dance is a low-impact dance practice that, in addition to raising serotonin (happy chemicals) levels, offers a number of physical, emotional, social, and spiritual health and happiness benefits. The dance style incorporates tai-chi, the Alexander technique, yoga, and other dance, healing and martial arts.

Numerous studies have shown that Tai Chi, Yoga, and other movement arts that inspire Nia Dance have profoundly great health and happiness advantages for elders, as well as providing the ideal atmosphere for social interaction. Because Nia Dance is a fusion of several distinct disciplines, it offers a plethora of social and emotional benefits to seniors.

Nia Dance is made up of 52 highly flexible movements that are designed to work with your specific body type and talents. This makes it suitable for everyone to participate in all exercises and Nia Dance routines, especially the elderly. Its flexibility means you won’t be forcing uncomfortable or unnatural motions through your body, reducing the risk of injury, weariness, or pain.

Nia Dance provides various social and emotional advantages for seniors, including an improved positive mood, calm energy, a supportive teaching atmosphere, a compassionate instructor, pain relief, better self-esteem, decreased depressive symptoms and anxiety, and recovered mobility and flexibility.

Guide Your Body Through Gentle Movements With Nia Dance

Nia Dance is a beautiful dance style that was created to provide not only healing benefits but to be adapted to suit any person’s needs and abilities. During a Nia exercise, you’ll be taken through seven distinct cycles. Each cycle has a varied effect on your body, with movement speed and style changing each cycle to deliver a range of different advantages and stimulate different parts of your body and mind.

No matter your abilities, each cycle can easily be adapted to what your body needs and can perform. Anyone, regardless of gender, age, or unique needs and abilities, can engage in Nia Dance. Being able to adapt and easily change movements to suit your body can significantly lower the chance of injury while also reducing exhaustion and muscle aches. Listening to your body also allows you to show off your distinct personality in the dance.

Some benefits of Nia Dance most commonly include mental clarity, a more enjoyable view on life, weight loss, a greater positive attitude, calmer energy, higher productivity, muscular toning, improved spinal posture, increased endurance, higher levels of mobility and flexibility, enhanced balance and coordination, better circulation, and improved cognitive and organ performance.

Aside from the cycles and adaptability of Nia Dance, the music played during exercises is equally important in making the routine more gentle. Nia Dance music is specifically chosen to stimulate your nervous system, generate sensations of calm by binaural frequencies, and open and activate your body’s seven chakras. Nia Dance music is sometimes described as beautiful and harmonic, and it utilises a wide range of instruments and chords to bring a sense of tranquillity to your routine. The music will help you ease through cycles gently and allow movements to flow through your body in a soft manner.

Your instructor, Belinda Goodwin, has carefully adapted the movements of Gentle Nia to be able to provide the benefits of Nia Dance while having her students use lower levels of mobility and flexibility. In fact, this class can even be done while sitting and using only your upper body and you can still enjoy all of the benefits of Nia Dance.

There’s also a special offer to first-time Dance NZ members! Are you wanting to participate in Nia Dance but you’re still hesitant if it’s right for you? You can book 3 classes of your choice for only $15 which is $5 per class! This allows you to try Nia Dance classes at Dance NZ for the first time at a discounted price, so there’s no harm if you don’t enjoy it!

As a senior, it can be difficult to find the perfect movement exercise that is gentle on your body and accommodating of specific abilities. Many of the exercises that are catered towards seniors aren’t able to provide a large and diverse variety of mental, physical, spiritual, social, and emotional benefits. This blog will be sharing knowledge on a wonderful, gentle seniors movement in Hamilton that has a large number of advantages and numerous participation options.

Nia Dance And Its Influence On Seniors

Nia Dance is a one-of-a-kind exercise method that takes a holistic approach, in the form of dance, to deliver benefits and tools to improve your lifestyle and attitude. Also known under the name of the Nia Technique, Nia Dance is made up of nine different movement arts as well as powerful music, and influential spoken and mindfulness teachings. Nia Dance is a tremendous tool for improving not just your physical health but also your mental, spiritual, social and emotional well-being through gentle movements.

A Nia Dance routine, whether performed like an experienced dancer or sitting down with soft actions, should always leave you feeling clear-headed, emotionally balanced, and happy. You may leave feeling energetic and productive, or more relaxed, depending on how you altered your movements throughout your Nia Dance practice to align with your goals going into the class.

Nia Dance is well-known to be a non-impact form of exercise and is highly adaptable to every person’s mobility levels, abilities, and other specific needs. This makes it a perfect routine for seniors to enjoy and follow along; Nia Dance can even be performed sitting down using just your upper body, while still offering the same benefits!

Nia Dance helps you utilise the pleasant emotions you feel throughout your Nia exercise outside of class and be able to feel these same emotions outside of classes or Nia workouts. As a result, the Nia Technique is more than a dance style as it can teach and motivate you to live a more meaningful, happier life.
